Default New to the Subaru world

A few weeks ago, I picked up a new WRX Wagon. It's the first Subaru I've owned, and so far, I'm very happy with it. Just wanted to say hello, and pass on my experiences.

This is the third new car I've bought in the last several years, and it's definitely different than what I've driven before. It replaced my '86 MR2 that I've had for 12 years and ran up 250k miles on. I owned a 2000 Integra Type R for almost 4 years, but finally sold it to buy a house. Last year, I bought an IS300 (5-speed) for my wife, so we're finally back down to two cars in the family.

So far, the WRX is sort of in the middle of the pack from a performance perspective. It's tied with the Type R for straightline speed, but WRX definitely has a unique feel because of the turbo. However, the WRX doesn't handle nearly as well as the Type R did, nor does it keep up in turns with IS300. Not that I expected it to, and to be quite honest, it does better than I expected. New tires would do it some good, since it has by far the worst tires of the three.

I'll browse through the FAQs and do a few searches for the topics I'm looking for at the moment. Please direct me to a thread that answers my questions if I've missed something and asked an old question again. Some of you may know me from other boards. I've been on newcelica.org and clubrsx.com for a while.

Cheers,
yakkosmurf

Welcome to the community.

As far as handling goes, change the tires and the rear sway bar first. It will handle alot better after these 2 mods and then go from there with other mods. For power get an accessport first. Then work on your exhaust with a turboback and a catless uppipe. Although with these exhaust mods you will have problems with your annual state inspection, so that is something you will have to ponder over. These are just my suggestions, so take them with a grain of salt, and I'm sure others will offer their opinions also.

Enjoy your new car and drive safely.

I sold the Type R over a year ago, so I never owned the two together. Also, I haven't gotten an WRX pics yet because it's been raining most of the time I've owned. Which hasn't been all bad, because it's been fun experiencing all wheel drive for the first time on wet roads. I hope to get some pictures of the WRX with the IS300 when the weather clears up a bit.

Here's a link to some pictures I took of the Type R before I sold it. Also, there some pictures of the Type R with my MR2 and my mom's CLK.

Welcome! The wagon is a great choice. The 17" wheels/tires combo will improve handling some.....they are a blast to drive. Find some owners nearby if you MOD your car. There are always helpful folks on this site. Good luck!
