lol it can get kind of rough, there is alot of good information in Unabomber's FAQ though If I have a question I just read, read, read and use search and usually find the answer.

yeah, that's pretty much what everyone's complaining about.

i can see it, but at the same time all the noobs are like "well, i put an intakez and a bovz on mah car lik3 4 m1llion miles agoz and its perfectz now! LOLOLOLOZZ!!!"

and it can get kind of annoying trying to fend off the noob hordes and save them from themselves.

I don't understand why people get so upset that -newbs- posting in the -newb- forum render some ridiculous sounding statements and questions.

For Jebus's sake, it's the 'NEWBIES and FAQ' forum.. by very design, it is intended for stupid questions.

People that get all offended that a newb doesn't "rah-spek my guru'ness" make me laugh... get out of the newbie forum if you can't deal with newbie questions and attitudes. ...kills me to see a few select 'gurus' continuously get all butt-hurt over arguing with newbs who deign to 'disrespect' their guruness.

haha, that's a good point. i guess its just frustrating to them. a noob asks a question, gets an answer from some of the more respected figures on nabisco, and then the noob is like "no way, i don't believe that" or whatever....you know? its just an annoyance (to me anyway) but i can't speak for others such as uncle scotty.

Well i've got to say that Unabomber's FAQ's are very extensive and cover just about every newb question out there. I really don't think they are pimped enough to new (and old) people on the boards.

Now, of course, everyone has their limits. I'm not saying some newbs, after being told in a non-confrontational way that they're wrong, that get all worked up and lash out, can't be 'corrected' sternly. Two wrongs don't make a right, but sometimes corrections are in order. There's ways to do it w/out injecting personal assaults as well... meaning that even when you're right and you know it, don't expect anyone to respect that if you are calling them a dipstick at the same time as you're condescendingly answering their question: everyone reacts to insults in basically the same way... why this surprizes people is beyond me.

I'm talking about when you see a newb post an innocent, newb-type question, with no obvious malice or other 'tude, who gets immediately smaked down upon by a few gurus who are quite literally -personally insulted- that a newb would even bother posting such a question -in the newb forum-.

-That- just makes me laugh out loud -at- the guru/specialist/whatever, not with them. For them to get so personally offended that someone would post a question in the -newbie- forum is just laughable... and it makes the 'seasoned-pro' (who -should- be well weathered and toughened to the tribulations of answering newbie Q's) look like a total ass.

The problem with the noob forum is its mostly noobs trying to help noobs, because most people who could actually help ran away from that forum long ago. There is on guy that keeps telling someone that the way to fix understeer is more gas, and you fix oversteer by slowing down

You don't?

Anyway, that's the best way to put it that I've heard. Its the problem of noobs trying to help other noobs. Very well put.

And the worst part about all that is the people who chime in without reading/being involved with the thread and then drop this huge post thinking its all knowledge and it is a repeat of what 5 other people have said....ugh. That's very tedious. I can see why many of us non-noobs/gurus have abandoned the Noob/FAQ forum.

I don't see a problem with noobs helping noobs.... sure, they'll screw up as often as they get it right, but so what. Failure is a pretty good teacher.

I think the whole thing is a vicious cycle... noob_1 gives noob_2 bad advice in the eyes/estimation of expert_1. Expert_1 puts the smak down on noob_1... harshly (and at least a decent chunk of the time 'expert_1' is not exactly correct either). Noob_1 responds with a littany of childish remarks b/c, well, that's what most people do when attacked. Chaos ensues... minds close.. people stop paying attention.

To avoid the chaos -in the thread-, expert_1 should've never posted if he/she is not capable of dealing with crazy noobs. I think most people know if they are capable of putting up with the trials and tribulations of educating someone... and should thus police themselves and be the bigger person. A little common decency goes a long way. The noobs that refuse to behave will be dealt with by mods eventually if not sooner... at the very least, they should be ignored and will thus become marginalized.

When you take on the role of 'teacher', be prepared to put up with all that it entails or simply don't take on the role. It's really that simple.

No! you're WRONG.. (former) n00b!.. it was your insistance that a 3" O-pipe made mad-mad-tripple-mad-mo' powah than the 3.0135" O-pipe that -I- told you to buy (Inconel version, mind you!) that caused you to receive 'teh n00dl3 fury!'
