Have a Nice Day? Downpipe popped off flange

OK...so im driving on my way home tonight. I get to a stop sign, and i do a pull...right at the top of 2nd gear my car gets REALLY loud. Luckly i was almost home, so i get home and pop my hood to see what the proplem was...i didnt believe what i saw...i didnt even know this was possible.
Well i did have an exhaust leak right where the turbo meets the downpipe on the topside...but i didnt think it would do this. Any thoughts on how it happened. So i guess im in the market for a stock dp.

On a sort of side note...does everyone realize that stock exhaust parts are like 100000x more expensive than aftermarket!?!?! (assuming you buy new from dealership).

It's insane how much they want to charge for that crap!

Be carefull not to damage your turbo by running without any exhaust. You might crack it due to the rapid cooling. I have an extra stock DP but I think you should get a better flowing one.

My turbo is not that clean looking on the up pipe flange. Mine looks like it was cast with another piece that was broken off.

Take it back to the dealer and get the DP replaced. Emissions related parts should be covered for longer than even the drivetrain warranty. I think it's like 75k-100k miles or something...

haha...didnt think id get this many replies. And as far as getting a cat-less dp....already got a couple of emissions tickets and got flamed in the process of trying to explain my experience. Just sold my helix and put the stock one back on. maybe ill look into a highflow cat dp though.

Thanks for the offers guys on the stock DPs...but i found one close to where i live for $40....so thanks anyways.

Oh yea, and i dont believe anything got melted.

I bet that was beyond loud. For a mile or so on the way to muffler shop I ran my old WRX with just a catless uppipe and catless downpipe and the thing sounded like a freakin harley or a nascar. Pretty cool.
