Default OT: Washington state may become TWO states!

State republicans are pushing to make western and eastern Washington two different states! Congress must aprove of it before taking effect.

What do you guys think?

Sorry about being OT, but I thought this was important to know.

aparently the guy that proposes this does it every year.

So it isn't really SERIOUS about dividing in to two states, that would NEVER actually happen. Its really just to make a point that Eastern Washington is totally overshadowed and ignored by the more populated Western side.

Good riddance as far as I'm concerned... dirty farmers...

Just joking.

I think BC, Alberta, Washington, Oregon and maybe California should make up a country. We would be a pretty damn rich country. The name of the new country would have to start with J, so all our car parts could be called JDM.

Alright, California is out. I'll start on the paperwork. With all the oil in Alberta, and the rest of the natural resources in our states/provinces, we will be the bestest country ev4r

You should see if you can get Montana on board. The US autobahn is always welcomed it a sense.

Except that Montana highways have had a standard speed limit since 1999. but other than that they're cool.

But, speaking of how Eastern Washington whines about being ignored - several years ago my mom was the librarian for the Puget Sound Water Quality Authority (or something to that effect) and the nice folks in Eastern Washington decided to shut the department down. Apparently there are more Eastern Washington votes in whatever strange group decides where the money gets spent, and they saw no need for anybody to take ownership of the Puget Sound.

So mom's department got absorbed into the Governor's office, and until recently was paying outrageously high rent for some real estate in the Department of Ecology building in Lacey.

Default Reasons to include California

Well, I being a Californian want in on this new country thing.

Include Northern California (from San Jose), and you'll get the Silicon Valley tech businesses that keep Microsoft running, you'll get the wine country (among the best in the world), you'll get the redwoods, you'll get the 420 fields , you'll get a lot of cool, well educated people, and...

A lot of nice twisty backroads where the speed limit is up to how much talent you possess.

Gee, being a California, I guess you wouldn't know about the silicon valley in Redmond, WA or the great wines that we have from Washington either. If you want twisty roads, I'll show you plenty of them here in Washington. Well educated people for Cal?? You are kidding right? Didn't they just elect Arnold as governer? No I think we would just fine without any part of California.

If you include northern cali you get the town of Weed and Lake Shasta

If you exclude southern cali you dont get the hot beaches with lots of gilrs in tiny bikini's or muscle beach for the ladies.

I heard a rumor of Oregon doing the same????

Thats ok, as long as I still get the mountains

As for the "why now", like I said I read that they bring this up every year, so it isn't something new. Its more just to get attention than anything else.

That theory was introduced back in the 80s in a book based on the "eight nations within the US". It addressed re-partitioning the states around like ideologies. The N. Cal to B.C. "Nation" was Cascadia.

The same has been talked about in Oregon also. The rural Oregon
is always been Republican conservatives (majority) and the poplace
areas like PORTLAND are bleeding heart liberals and carry the vote
always in national races leaving us country folk wondering why we
try to vote. Us country folk are even helping foot the bill for light
rail in metro and sets well for us when our roads are full of 18"
wheel killing potholes. Perhaps Eastern Washington and Eastern
Oregon could join a confederacy and the East will rise again!Them
Pot smokin' pill poppin' city folk wouldn't have a chance."I can skin
a buck and run a trout line and a country boy can survive."
