Default What Would You do differently with $20K and an STI to put the ESX to shame?

I've been reading a bunch about the new ESX that's supposedly coming out and I'm exciting an aftermarket special edition subaru is hitting the open market (though, in limited numbers). However, let's just say that lots of people on this board could think of much better ways to spend an extra $20K. So let's here it!

my list goes like this:

sti pink springs
front & rear sway bars & end links
front & rear strut tower braces
stainless brake lines
rear subframe bushing kit
sti engine & pitch stop mount & trans mount
sti short shifter kit or kartboy/turninconcepts bushings on stock shifter
headers (coated)
3" catless tb exhaust (coated)
gt30r or gt35r with external wastegate
utec or hydra EM
injectors & fuel pump
pull engine and install pistons/rods
port/polish heads or replace with better heads & upgrade valvetrain

that more or less covers my own planned mod path. there you have some basic suspension & braking mods, and a solid 450-500whp engine that will stand up to the power. if i had money left over id also consider a driveshaft and front/rear axles from driveshaftshop.com although you could just leave that until something breaks and replace/upgrade as needed. im sure i forgot some things also but with those mods only itd destroy the esx edition sti in every aspect.

edit: oops.. i forgot the FMIC. see i knew i would forget something

Ok, lets see...05 sti in mind btw

Power-
Shiv tuned Ecutek-shooting for a 350 whp pump gas tune
-helix downpipe
-Borla XR-1 catback
-20g
-Hyperflow top-mount
-Perrin shorty intake
-600 cc injectors
-Gruppe-s header

Handling-
-Whiteline 24mm front sway bar
-Helix 3 way adjustable rear sway bar with hardened end links
-Grp-n strut tops
-Koni struts with STI pink springs or Whiteline grp 4 coilovers if i was more track oriented
-Camber plates
-17 by 8.5 Volk TE-37 with 245 BFG KD's

Exterior-
-JDM fog lights
-20% Tinted windows
-V-limited lip

Interior-
-Defi bf Whites (60mm)
-Defi triple center guage pod
-Aftermarket head-unit and speakers.
-Bride seats

Brakes-
-I dont know....pads, rotors, and fluid... dont really NEED a bigger brake kit.

Spend the the rest of the 8g's or so on real 24k gold paint. Or realistically buy an R-6, F-4i/F-4iRR, Gsx-r...or a shifter cart!!

I love the response above(993 911 Turbo). It is a prime example that if you are going to dedicate yourself to buying a car, buy the best one you can for the money. An Impreza with 500hp is STILL an Impreza when all said and done. If I wanted to spend $20k on my STi, I wouldn't have bought one- I would have bought an M3, Lotus Elise, S4, Z06 etc.

you might find a 993 c4s for 52k but theres no way your gonna find a turbo for that much. zo6 is the clear winner in my mind.

I would get a Prodrive electro-hydraulic actuated paddleshift transmission, enjoy it for a while, then sell the STI & E-H tranny and buy the Porsche.

May I ask why? They are the one of the most reputable, high quality exhaust manufacturers....in the WORLD.....oh wait they are not JDM....oh wait JDM has just as many garbage companies as us APC toting Americans have.

FWIW, I had a Borla on my old WRX......

BTW< back to the thread - For that money ESX is charging, they are offering NO suspension mods and ugly 18' wheels that are made by ARCEO (?!??!?) and have red inserts on them. For those who know about the bouncies on the USDM STI - this a joke for a 425 hp car.

The Prodrive tranny is more than the whole ESX car.

Yeah, are you not aware that they make exhuasts specifically for the wrx and sti that sound G R E A T. I have the borla hush on my wrx and i truely bieleve there isnt a better sounding cat-back(mainly becuase its quite). Another reason i like the borla b/c most other exhuast use that stupid rice canister design(yay, its makes 1 more hp b/c its canister ).

And they also make exhausts for Porsche, Lamborghini, MB, Ferrari etc. For those that OBVIOUSLY didn't know, Borla made their name from making exhausts for cars such as Ferrari and RR back in the 80's.

Whomever mentioned throwing up, go throw up some more...

....I dunno about anybody else....but if I had a new '05 STi, and $20K and a decent place to work.....the end result would be, simply.......sick.....and it would be white or CGM or PSM and look like a slightly pimped RS.....with a ScoobySport (or Stromung, mebbe) exhaust, just to be sure it sounded like a Subaru
