I have had the AP for about 3 weeks now no problem, untill last night I went on a spirited drive with another WRX in a canyon on a forest service road. Anyway I get back to my house and the WRX is idling like my old camed out VW. I knew something was wrong so I switched the map back to stock. Next time I started it, my Check engine light came on and the car died. I'm running lean says code PO171. The only thing I can figure is that it didnt like the little bit of 87 oct i put in. But I did the math and with the 92 I filled my tank up with I should have the equivilant of 90.5 oct. I've done this before with no harm done. What should I do, The car dosnt idle, I dont want to even try to drive it.

so you beat on your car with less than the 91 octane you're supposed to put in it? I use 93 and my car is running the 91 octane map...

I wont say I beat on it, I have been much harder on it. I'd say 7/10's. Yeah, its not as if I was trying to save on gas or something my local station was out of 92 and 89 so I put the minimum in I could, then the next day when the I got to a different one I put the 92 in. I completely forgot I put the 87 in cause I never do. When I had the 87 in I ran economy. No I have it back to stock but its still not idleing.

sounds like o2 sensor (front) or maf sensor issue.

Its bad gas i've decided. I flashed my base map to stock, put some octane booster and I made it down to my gas station put 6 gallon of 92.. Its running better, no stalling but its misfiring on every cyclinder. So I figure once the crappy gas is out it should run fine. I had water in my gas before so I've had similar problems with my car. I think my car dosnt like any change at all when it comes to its gas. I swear it runs better on 76 then chevron or arco.

Low octane gas doesn't cause idle or misfire problems - it only causes knock problems. You've probably got a vacuum leak.

what map are you running? all of cobb's tuned maps are tuned for 91 and 92 octane. going below that could be bad. i asked Trey about this before i got my stage 2 map and since i only can ge 92 octane where i live, he said that the 91 octane map is the best and he wouldn't recommend getting the 93 octane map. it's okay to go over the specific map, but going under could be detrimental to the engine. i this case, you went below and using 87 octane even for the stock map could be bad. this is because the stock WRX map is pretty lean at high rpm's (some people have seen high EGT's with the stock map). now, if you get the cobb map, they run very aggressive maps and very lean for turbo spool and top end power. next time, be careful.

currently its running crappy under 1750 then its pulls fine. A subaru tech thinks its bad gas. Its stock.

bad gas would probably be the call here. bad gas=knock in most cases.
