Default How's the range of your remote?

On my 02 WRX with 5sp I have a remote starter that has lousy range. Even to unlock the doors I need to be within a few feet of the car, sometimes even when I'm right at the car the remote won't unlock the doors. Also, the remote start has a range of about 20 feet. My wife's Intrepid's remote works about 10000 times better. Anyone else with the same problem? Have you found a fix? And yes, I have put in a new battery at least three times with no affect.
This is a Subaru product according to the dealer.

Its not factory. Dealers have local shops install for them. First try a new battery, then Stick your head under the dash and see if you can find it. Im guessing itll be very very obvious, this kind of work is 100% about quantity. Shops usually hire someone just to travel to dealers and throw stuff in. When you find the unit look for an antenna it might be bundled up which will cause range issues. Also could be a bad ground on the unit. Good Luck

I wasn't aware that you could get a Subaru remote starter on a 5 speed... Is this a Canuckistan thing? My Compustar is good for about 1/4 mile away from the car if I try to do something... If the car tries to contact me, it's about 3/4 mile.

I installed a remote starter on my moms Outback. Its great, but barely works from very far away. Althought, it will work at different angles.

Ive tried moving the antenna lower on the window, but it still doesnt work that great. Ill have to try a new battery (although the kit is barely 2 months old) and ground

Default How' the range of your remote?

Sorry for being late to reply. Thanks for your suggestions. I bought the car used and didn't get any info about the remote so I took the car to a dealer. He said that it is a Subaru product and was able to get me the manual for it. I complained to him about the range but he had no solution. He said that there is no way to fine tune it. I've changed the battery many times and the antenna is located between the rear view mirror and the top of the windshield. I'm stumped. Does anyone have some knowledge about this problem?

Since I don't have a remote start on my car, I can't comment on your situation directly, but I can tell you that a good trick for getting a little more out of any remote is to hold it under your chin when you press the button.

It seems that your head acts as an antenna of sorts. Give it a try, you will be surprised.

OK! I'll bite. I'll give it a try. If you hear a loud coming from the north you'll know why.

With my compustar 2WSS-AS I can be about 6 to 10 city blocks away from my car & it works fine.

That's quite a range. I'm lucky to get mine to work from 6 feet away! I checked the manual that I have for the unit. It is a Subaru Canada manual. The part number for the remote is SC1600102B. Is anyone familiar with this? There are 10 functions that can be programmed from running time, night timer mode (the car will start automatically on it's own at preset intervals - for cooold winter nights!), to turbo cool down.

I'd sure like to find out why it works so poorly. Anyone?
