Got the pm and e-mail. Thanks.

Im glad you shipped FedEx so i can get the package on saturday instead of having to wait until monday.

Now all I need is someone who knows how to compress dv video from a camcorder so the internet world can hear a true comparison between stock, resonated and resonated with silencer.

Anyone with the knowledge to help me with that?

Default What the hell!!!

I'm insanely pissed off right now. I made SEVERAL inquiries in regards to the resonator and if it impedes flow. Well, I just unboxed my exhaust and find out that it actually necks down to a 2" opening inside it!!!!! What the hell! I paid for an 80mm exhaust all the way through. What pisses me off the most is that I asked the forum and CVR numerous times about this and it was assured that it was 80mm ALL THE WAY THROUGH the entire catback. Unless you can get a representative from Magnaflow to tell me it's to create some venturi effect to rid the exhaust flow from the resonator chamber, I want an exchange for a non-resonated.

I work at Magnaflow and if you take a look at the image posted on the beginning of the page you see exactly what you get. It does neck down to 2-1/4" at the flange where the catback mates to the downpipe for proper fitment to a stock downpipe, not 2". There is no necking down where the resonator is inserted in the midpipe anywhere, it keeps the 80mm diameter through the entire system. The resonator is a straight thru design and just in place to help keep noise levels down. If there is a problem I would contact CVR Motorsports directly and explain the situation. You also need to remember, the non resonated version of this system has the same neck down at the rear flange...

I think you need to actually take the resonated mid-pipe, look at the exit inside, and measure it. There is a 5 inch long tube inside that is EXACTLY 2" in diameter. I just got done confirming this by sticking an object that is exactly 2" in diameter, down to the exit of the resonator to confirm. I am NOT talking about the flange that bolts to the downpipe. That is visually obvious. This exists INSIDE the resonator itself. I just got off the phone with Magnaflow and they said that they don't even recommend the resonated version for the STi! I wish someone would have said something beforehand.

Well that was going to be my next statement. The resonated version of this system is not reccomended on an STi. I am sure CVR Motorsports can get you a non resonated version of this system if you are able to return the system you recieved to them, this is just a guess, so i would contact them as soon as possible.

OK, I just got off the phone with Chris from CVR, who was extremely helpful I might add, and they explained that this has come up with a previous buyer of a resonated catback. He was able to knock this piece out of the midpipe and, consequently, have a true 80mm catback. I cannot tell you how pleased I was to hear this from Chris and to verify, it is actually just cheaply spot welded inside, so it is definitely do-able. Chris will receive some pictures from me, before and after, that he or I can post to explain this malady. Thanks CVR!

Actually just got off the phone with EvilSTI, and Im very happy he called me about this. I hadnt yet seen the post about it.

One of the other guys had called me previously about what he means. Apparently, there is a silencer-like insert at the inlet side of the resonator, that reduces the inlet size to 2". This piece is merely spot welded inside, and (atlien) was able to knock it out and install it, freeing up the restriction, and keeping the resonator at the same time. With this piece gone, it is then a true 80mm through out.

EvilSTI was very pleased to hear this, as he needs the exhaust installed by tommorow I believe atlien may have used something with a rubber end to knock it out and free up the opening. This is great to know, since you can still have the 3" AND the resonator.

EvilSTI, thanks for the call, and please do let me know how it turned out and post some pics!!

Hearing about this, it makes me concerned about receiving my kit tomorrow and installing it. Can anyone with the resonated version who has done this mod, verify what is inside the resonator? This piece you are knocking out, is it perforated, like a resonated exhaust tip (IE Cobb and Stromung), or does this 2" piece sit inside a perforated 80mm pipe inside the resonator? Im kinda lost as to how much construction has gone into the resonated piece. The way it sounds to me is that it will end up being significantly louder by knocking out that silencer piece from the resonator... Im gonna keep the exhaust regardless, but im worried that by knocking out that piece, its gonna beat the purpose of getting the resonator in the first place.
