Exclamation Attn: Russell Rogers (& whoever else wants to read about Centerline RPM's)!

The first thing I noticed on the cover shot of SubieSport was your rims. I dig them in black, btw. My dad has chrome ones on his Mini Cooper S. Well, he was rotating his tires last week and shining up the rims when he saw a crack. Then another. Then more. On one of the wheels the center was ready to break out!!

So he took them back to good ol' Les Schwab and they told them that this was the reason Centerline quit making the RPM and let him pick out a new set of rims for exchange (more on this later with pics - it's pretty humorous because it's my dad).

Anyway, I just wanted to give you a heads-up and tell you to keep a close eye on those rims. I'd hate to see anything happen to your beautiful wagon, man! Keep up the good work on that thing, btw!

Take care,

Justin

Here's a pic in case someone's not familiar with the wheels.

Thanks for the info but could you give more info about this? Does your dad do any serious driving with those rims on? How long did he own the rims for?

I appreciate you providing the info. I checked and Centerline is still selling the wheels in their overstock section of their web site.

Since I still have my winter set on, I can inspect all my RPMs. Did he notice the cracks on the inside of the wheel or did the cracks go all the way through?

No problem, guys - glad to help!! I'm not 100% certain about the details, but I'll try here...

SurfPine - the only serious driving my dad does with his Mini is the occasional speed run through the backroads late night around my house (which is out in the sticks). Of course, I've driven it a couple times (not hard though) and my little brother drives it (who used to be kinda dumb about stuff). The cracks were almost all the way through on one of the wheels and I would highly reccomend that you inspect your THOROUGHLY!! And he's had the rims for probably about 2 years now.

Agree...If I see any fractures or cracks, all four of mine are getting replaced. I have put probably 25k on them and had them about one year minus 3 months of winter (yes I have 52k on a 04 rex). I was planning on putting them back on today so I will reply as soon as I check mine out.

I guess I was asking where the cracks were so people pull the wheels off to inspect them if the cracks are starting on the inside.

hahahaha...that's a good one. I doubt Centerline changed anything on them.

Justin, thanks again for sharing this info.

Had to wash em first and let them dry but I do not see any fractures or cracks. Mine are painted though, factory grey. I hope the paint is not hiding anything. They are the 17x7 RPMs.

Justin,

What size was your dad running?

SurfPine - his were also 17". I'd imagine they were 7" wide, as well.

INSANE - sounds like maybe they're still selling them? If you see SurfPine's first post above, you'll see.

http://www.srtforums.com/forums/show...nterline+crack

what the story from him i heard is
Quote:
Jaymzx: anways, Schwabies replaced the wheels with brand new old stock RPMs. Within 3 months, 3 out of 4 of those wheels cracked, too
Jaymzx: Centerline wouldn't give me a set of the 'new' RPMs (with the black logo) so Schwabies took the broken wheels and gave me credit for what I paid for them. I bought a set of TSW Volcanos

Good find! Schwab took back his old ones, told him to pick out what he liked, then gave him $250 back for lesser value. According to your quote there, it sounds like they revamped the RPM's and started selling them again. Hopefully those with older Centerlines know of this problem!!

I would like to see some pictures of the cracks and a more detailed description of where the cracks were. I am kinda paranoid now because there are some anomelies in my powdercoat that i am worried about. It may be cracks surfacing.
Thansk for the help and the heads up

Of course I didn't expect my dad to take pics before he took them back to Les Schwab because he has a life other than the internet unlike myself. So I don't have any pics, but I'll chat with him about it when I get a chance and get back to you.

Reviving this old thread...

I just swapped out my RPM's for the winter set and noticed I now have two cracked RPM's. I bought them at Schwabs. I need to find my receipt and check on getting these replaced. I do not know how long they warranty them for. Will find out tomorrow.

They broke on me! Every spoke had cracks in them on every wheel. I had them less than 8 months and less than 10,000 miles. These wheels sucked! At least I got a credit on them, now I have Enkei's.

I'd say I have put somewhere around 45k+ miles on mine. I have been checking them every so often. Gave them the thourough check yesterday as I was storing them for the winter and noticed the hairline cracks, one crack per wheel on two of the wheels. I bought them Spring of '04.
