Default Anyone notice a difference by switching to Mobil 1?

Well, I finally hit 10,000kms and decided this past weekend to make the switch from dino oil to synthetic. It might just be my imagination, but the car feels like it accelerates smoother. It is hard to describe the feeling, but there is a definte difference. I did not feel it until about 5-10Kms after the oil change. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I used to run reg.oil then switched over to Mobil 1 in the last 3 years for my Corrado and Jetta. Both cars run considerably smoother. The oil seems to stay cleaner to.

Now if only I can buy this stuff bulk.

Someone on i-club said you can get Mobil 1 bulk at Walmart. I have not checked into this. Does anyone know if we can get it in Canada at Walmart?

You used to be able to get 5 litre jugs of Mobil 1 at walmart. The savings were close to a dollar.

I can only find 4 litre jugs now. Need a cheaper alternative still. Maybe by the case!

Mobil is distributed by Esso in Canada, (one is owned by the other). If you do an internet search for esso in Canada, you can contact them and they will provide you with a bulk dealer in Winnipeg. I know you can get the synthetic tranny oil in bulk, so I would thinkyou could get 10w30 or 10w40 in bulk too.

Daryll,

Synthetic is FAR superior to "dino" oil. I am not the least bit surprised that you felt the difference. I most certainly did when I switched over as well.

In fact I've been running synthetic in the last four cars I've owned and I feel the diff every time.

BTW, where you been? You've missed the last two auto-crosses?

I use Royal Purple.

But yes, Mobil 1 is good too. Pretty much the only two oils that I'll use now...Royal Purple and Mobil 1. Depends on how lazy I am. Mobil 1 I can pick up at Canadian Tire, Royal Purple I gotta go to a specialty auto store.

And switching to synthetic made things a lot smoother. You can feel the difference when you start it up and drive, its quieter and the oil doesn't smell when you run the car hard. Although there has been times when I ran the car so hard *cough* mountain fighting *cough* that the Mobil 1 I was using at the time started to smell a wee tad.

Running the car hard?!? What exactly does that mean. I've been occasionaly putting the engine under high revs. Does that mean I should change the oil when I rev it up?

BTW Does it void the warrenty if I use synthentic fluids? I know for some manfacturers it might.

Running the car hard means sustained hi-rpm/hi speed driving...the motor is constantly working, different rpms, braking, etc...

You don't have to change your oil, but its better to have synthetic in there for better "performance"...if not for that for the fact that with conventional oil you can actually smell it burning when you run the car hard enough.

And no, using synthetic oil would not void your warranty. It shouldn't anyway, but your dealer might be weird.

Thanks for all of the replies. I'll have to checkout the Royal Purple, never heard of it before. I was also wonder if anyone in etown sold Redline.

Mark, I have missed the last 2 auto-x's becuase I was busy building a new garage (home for my new baby). I'm hoping to et out to the ASA invitational on Aug 4th.

Great to hear about your OZ Superleggeras! These are on my shopping list too and I can't wait to see them and hear how you like them.

I finally received my Cobb 3" cat back exhaust after a month and a half wait and guess what ..... no gaskets.

So now I wait again.

The wife had a wonderful day yesterday with the Rex. She got pulled over at a bridge construction zone and was ticketed for doing 20km over the limit, then the cop added on $22 more for the tinted front windows. Just for fun the car threw a CE light on the way home. Woopi, now I am glad the cat back is not installed because for sure Subaru City would have claimed immediately that was the problem.

Turns out I knew cop (play hockey with him) and told Denise she should have dropped my name to qualify for the rebate

See ya later. Let us know when those rims come in.

ouch, sorry to hear about the ticket.....
but at least we know that the cops are not just targeting the drivers!! hahah, ie young and asian like me.
I didn't notice u had ur windows tinted before. It's not new is it?

The last ASA autocross was fun....the course was way more techincal then the Corvette club. I have yet to see any more WRXs run other then u Darryl. I have seen some show up, but i never met the drivers.

The Eurasia cup Team AutoX is cancelled due to "behind-the-scene" problems. Damn....i was hoping for 4 straight weekends of racing. damn damn damn. I'll just have to wait until the long weekend then.

Chris
PS. No WRX showed up for the saturday meet....even though it was our largest i think. We need more WRXs!!!

Chris,

My windows were tinted at the time of the Edmonton Challenge Cup. The tint is kinda light so you don't really notice too much. The front windows are about 85% (light through) so this cop was looking hard. I know these guys and they probably had a bet to see who could ticket the first WRX in Sherwood Park (the haven of RCMP). Sounds like you are auto'xing a lot? Are you seeing any time gains with the seat time? It bugs me a little that I am missing these events as I need the practice.

I hope to make one of the future meets. The last one was bad timing for me. Good to see such a improved turnout.

There is a blue WRX here in the Fort. I have waved at him once as we passed, but I want to catch up to him and let him know about i-club.

Later

I'm definately getting better w/ the increased seat time. I'm able to drive the course to the limit in less runs....

I have a 35% tint on my front windows, so i think that means it blocks 35% of the light going in. It's pretty light, but it looks pretty dark at nite.

I've spotted more and more WRXs around town, but the some of the drivers don't really fit the "profile" if we have a profile. oh well. i havne't driven the Impreza since like sunday nite. It's been sittin in the garage all clean and stuff, using mom's minivan........haha.

Warren,

Darn. I had to make commitments about my vacation so I emailed Reijo to take me off the waiting list...couldn't wait any longer.

He was in RedDeer that weekend, so the following Monday he replied that he was going to let me know I was in.

So now I am out this year. I hope another one gets held next year, because I am definetly getting in ahead of time.

Let us know how it is!
