well, was driving down the highway today at fairly decent speed and some random metal bits were on the pavement, who knows what they were. well, i was going to try to avoid the metal bits, but i got blocked in by a motorcycle moving VERY fast. Good thing I set my mirrors to remove the blind spot or he'd have been smooshied.
So I drive over the metal bits hoping that maybe I'll avoid them, when the car starts to slide. Read end felt like it was up in the air, but who knows for sure. Luckily, I was already letting off the gas, didn't break or accelerate, and the tail got back into position and I pulled over, knowing full well I popped a tire. After stopping the car and pulling WAY over, I noticed my front left tire flat. And my rear left tire. And my front right tire. So I had 1 tire still inflated. And there is a chunk of metal in that one. The metal looks like a shard of glass, I have NO idea where it came from. Oh well, these tires have barely 3000 miles on them Why do I always ruin my tires @ 3000 miles?Do the Kumho's hold up worse with big chunks of metal than the Toyo Proxes? I drove over bad stuff a LOT with the Toyos and never had a problem. But 3 or 4 tires? OUCH. Oh well, time to reorder another set. Luckily I kept my Toyo's that were in REALLY bad condition [bulges, bumps, air pockets, and tears]. Oh, my rims are basically gone now. After driving on them for only 50 feet with no real tires left, they're scratched, chipped, chunked, and looking pretty ugly. Thankfully, a friend who helped with my car battery owns a flat bed and we were able to get the car home in 1 piece pretty quickly today. I'm going to order 2 sets of tires [8 total] from tirerack, and I'm going to try to get the reseller discount again, i don't remmeber what the kumho's sold for, was is like $62 or so each? Anyway, if anyone else wants to jump in on the deal, I probably can charge about $6000 on my business card, so I can buy a crap load of these if anyone needs them. I'm kind of bored though and need to see what I should do about my rims. I really don't want 16"s, and those oz rims that 98imp has are pretty sweet, I just can't justify spending $2500 or whatever they cost. Ugh. Two car problems in 4 days. What's next?

Hmmmm... maybe you should take a vacation.
![]() BTW, have you tried uploading anything to the site lately? I've been having trouble when I try... I've got the membership form and a couple new pages to go up and soon I will have the pictures from the event up as well (which you shouldn't have missed since you'd have drooled all day on the Impreza L wagon with the STi v.5 motor & trans in it). |

At $62 I'd be quite interested in a set of 712s. That price is low enough to overcome my inherent fear of Korean tires and justify dropping @$250 or so instead of the RE730s I was thiking about getting next summer.
What details do/will you have? I might want to do something stupid and get the 205-50-R16s. For that price, I think I can take a chance. Y [Edit] Nick, I don't know what pictures you're looking to put up, but I think I got a least one picture of each Subaru (and WRX Jr.)with Donnie's digital camera. I hope they turned out okay. Greg - Yeah, I gotta get over to Donnie's and get the pics from him directly to put up on the site.
BTW, $62 is a good price for the 712's... I think I got mine for about $64 each 3-4 months ago at wholesale price. |

i would be interested in a set of steelies and winter tires too! i need a tire that can stand up to the dry traction when they plow and the snow and ice too. From what i've heard the blizzaks aren't good for sustaining a dry surface life.
post some numbers for steelie, tire packages dada. that would be great. -M a t t |

Sounds good; I get a healthy daily per diem working in Peoria and driving down every week, plus the overtime, so it's not a big loss right now. Dada, can you make it happen? I'm interested in the 205-55-R16 Kumho 712s.
