what i don't get is that why does 400HP sound SO unreasonable? The new GTO has 400hp and no one even batted an eye... I do realize the GTO does have 2.5Xs the displacement, but "400hp" has such a demeanor about it that most can't get past.

400 HP isn't unreasonable. ESX is selling a special edition Sti with 425 HP. It can, and will happen. Wait and see.

Sure its possible; the problems come with emissions and fuel economy.

I say keep the 300... increase fuel economy...

I like the drive to attain 400hp more then just buying a factory preformance vehicle... Idk I just think that with 300hp and a ton of aftermarket... I would rather do the work on my own.

JDM hp ratings until last year were limited to claiming 280hp max; eventhough, the car would make much more hp. I beleive this year or last year they have stopped that practice.

Similar to how the original Shelby mustangs were 1/3rd more powerful than the "claimed" power.

I don't think there would be too much of a price jump.

At least up here in canada the WRX is already priced fairly high, any more and it is going to priced out of it's class.... a "affordiable" performance compact.... save the STi for people with $$ to buy it ... and for us "kids" to dream about.

A 400 HP STi wouldn't shock me at all. That rumor has been floating around since the EVO FQ400 came out in Europe. Since Mitsu has already done it I don't find it hard to believe in the least. The question is will we get it?

Here's another source saying the redesigned Impreza will be available for sale in the US this year. In a press release yesterday from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety about how poorly most small cars fare during IIHS crash testing at http://www.iihs.org/news_releases/2005/pr030605.htm, there is this:
Quote:
Three more small cars will be tested in side impacts later this year. The Mini Cooper and Subaru Impreza will have new design features that are intended to improve side impact protection. The Honda Civic will be a completely redesigned model.

It only says "design features." It also indicated that the Civic will be all new, and doesn't appear to group the Impreza into the same category. I'm guessing it won't be a new platform.

There have been several different versions of subarus new dog nose, but I like this one the best.

Heres another one, the one I think will be implemented based on the B9 Tribeca.

Wow, I hadn't seen the top one before, I would like either look if one came out, I'd like it even more if it happens to have 400 horses trotting under the hood.

The IIHS press release may not indicate a "new platform" for the Impreza, but that doesn't preclude major changes to stuff that sits on top of that platform. I'm expecting the "design features" of interest to IIHS involve the addition of side curtain air bags. I'm guessing the Impreza will get a little fatter around the waste - when measured from "B" pillar to "B" pillar (to accomodate a little more "crush" during side impacts). And I'm also guessing it'll get a cute little new nose.

Default Anybody think...

the '06 Impreza wagons will get the wider track found on the sedans? I know the narrow track wagons were a concession to JDM tax laws, but I wonder if they will continue with that on this facelifted version?

rsholland...I doubt the track will change, in Japan anyway, as the non turbo Impreza is all over the place in Japan. However, the difference between USDM Subarus and those around the world is increasing all the time, so who knows?

i can almost guarantee the wrx will not have a 2.5l. the whole point of having a wrx production car is for wrc. the wrc cars need to be based on a production car and are almost all set up with 2.0l turbo engines. though there's rumors of wrc rules changing, i think the current rules will still apply to the 06 line of production cars.

The WRX's WRC homologation has nothing to do with the cars sold in the US. The WRX in the rest of the world will remain a 2.0L.

One thing I think people are forgetting, is that Subaru pretty much MADE the class with the WRX's. The US, up until the "import" scene took over, weren't into small motors with forced induction. Subaru came out with a 4 door (or wagon), AWD, turbocharged car that was rally bread. What other car in the US was even comparable? Subaru hit a niche with the US with the intro of the WRX. Now, people like dodge (SRT), mazda (Mazdaspeed MX5) and chevy (Cobalt SS) are making small, forced induction cars to compete. Subaru started something with the WRX...who says it can't do with a change to reclaim the market? Hell, if I recall....wasn't it Subaru who finally got Mitsu to bring over the EVO (to compete with WRX/STI).

Screw the STi guys....us 2.0L WRX's are going to be pissed when the 2.5L WRX comes out Maybe I should have waited to buy mine.

No offense to you personally...

But if somebody posts some nonsense about the homologation rules again, they need to be banned. It's ALWAYS false information!

All AWD Turbo.. all very much pre-WRX
Subaru was the first to make it work again in the US with 1996+ emission standards.

As for being pissed..
