Default Legacy Turbo No-Start

Hi,

I just bought myself a 1991 Legacy turbo. The car ran until last week.

It cranks fine. I checked the ignitor and coils so there is definitely spark. The fuel pump operates.

The ECU is throwing many different codes.
Code 12
Abnormal signal emitted from starter switch
Code 21
Abnormal signal from water temperature sensor
Code 23
Abnormal voltage input entered from air flow sensor
Code 24
Air control valve inoperative
Code 33
Abnormal voltage input entered from vehicle speed sensor
Code 49
Use of improper air flow sensor

I can't believe it would be all of these at once! Improper engine ground? loose ECU connector? Main relay not powering a bunch of sensors?

Any ideas?

-Michael

Hey man, sorry nobody responded. Did you try to clear the ECU codes? If not then do that and then reset the ECU. Those may be old stored codes.

Check and make sure that the MAF sensor connector is on tight. The car will crank but not fire if it's disconnected.

For more info, come over to www.bbs.legacycentral.org It's a site dedicated to the BC/BF Legacy.

Check to make sure the wiring harness is plugged in correctly (read: all the way). I was having a similar problem with my wagon. It turned out to be the coolant temp sensor connection (sensor that plugs into the coolant passage running across top of deck). When the car would throw that code (21), it wouldn't start.

Good luck.

I tried a bunch of things. Cleared the codes. checked the coolant temp sensor. Soon as the ECU is plugged back in it throws all those codes. I suspect it's something wiring related, ie bad ground or something. I did check the CLT and the resistance was correct as well as the wires being clean. I'll take some time to check them all at the ECU soon.
