Default Turbo upgrade

Well, here we go boys, I just got a hold of a VF39 and STI top mount
from my co-worker(he went with FP-green turbo and helix TMIC on his STI).
I have pulled the Baja turbo which now a fully confirmed TD04L (WRX,Outback, and Forester also use the same turbo).
The turbo swap is fairly simple and straight forward. The TMIC swap is more
complicated but doable.
After the swap, I'll be taking the baja to Mike W. at Gouppe-S for an ECUtek re-flash. His guesstimate is about 250 to 260 WHP. Not bad considering my baseline at 194.5WHP and 223.8WTQ with just a random tech exhaust upgrade. I have not dyno'd after the up-pipe install though but it's all good.
The set up will consist of:
VF39
STI TMIC
Walbro pump (maybe)
Baja already has the STI sidefeed (Yellow) injectors
Stay tuned folks!

Here are some pix of the turbo comparison, TD04L is on the left and VF39 on the right.

Why is the TMIC swap more complicated? I thought both TMICs mounted the same way. I was all set to do the same thing so it'd be nice to know before hand what I'm in for.

I heard that all you need to swap to an WRX or STI intercooler is the mounting hardware for a WRX or STI.

congrats! I was just talking with a fellow NASIOC member who is building up his STI. He was thinking a VF34 might be nice alternative but I am looking forward to hearing how your VF39 setup does.

Will the ECUtek reflash be a standard STI program or one specific for your Baja-T setup?

I completed the VF39 istall today. If you will be going this way lemme know if you have any questions. It'll take too long to explain everything here and I'm too tired to do so tonight LOL!
For reals, it wasn't too hard.

Well, It's too complicated for me because:
1) my co-worker needed the elbow on the sti bypass valve so I had to scrounge around for one. Fortunately some dude had a wrx bypass/elbow for sale.
2) He is also using the STI TMIC brackets so I don't know if my stock baja will work it does look like it will
3) He's also using the short metal tube that the y-pipe connects to under the TMIC. This one also looks like the Baja part will work.
4) All the STI TMIC gaskets are missing. I will need to purchase or fab them.
I'm hoping to install this before the end of the week so I can have the reflash done.

Haha! You just gotta wait for that good deal. I got a real good deal from my co-worker since he didn't need the parts any longer.

We'll find out soon enough!

VF34 on an STI is almost a lateral move. Seriously, he's better off with a FP green/TD06 or the garret aka GT30 kit. My WRX on VF34 only put out 246WHP/236WTQ on Vishnu's dyno but I know Shiv went to conservative on the tune. I know for sure that a Forester made ~260WHP not sure about torque tho.
On the reflash, no it will not be an STI prog. Mike W. at Grouppe-S will dyno tune the car. I think he will use the forester map as base and go from there.

Ok guys I'll keep you posted. Maybe next time I post the dyno graph will be included. I might even include a vid clip LOL.

Awesome. When I go down the upgrade route I will shoot you an email, I'd really appreciate any notes & details you could pass along.

No, he was recommending a VF34 for me. His nasioc handle is CBRD, he just bolted up a Slowboy GT13 on his STI and is having some issues ( http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...highlight=CBRD )

He is getting a mandrel bender he may do an exhaust for me but it might just be easier for me to get the Random Tech and install it at my house in VA. My wife has gone into "baby could come any day" mode, so I'll probably have to wait until after the delivery to start bolting on the goodies.
