Default dohc 2.5

quick question i have a 98 legacy wagon with a 2.5 dohc motor. and its pretty noisy on start up. i was under the thought that the dphc is just a noisy motor. my dad tells me the valves need to be adjusted, but i dont think so. what do you guys think?

If it goes away when warmed up, it's more likely piston slap. I dunno about warantee claims this far out, but it's worth a shot.

Valve adjustment is not cheap on this model motor (DOHC). If you find a dealer who stocks a supply of shims, lemme know.

If it has oil RUN IT. Most likely it has over 100k? And if you havent done head gaskets you will need to soon. You can decide then if you want to buy a new short block to quiet your engine.

yes of course there is oil in it ( just did an oil change) and it actually has 50k on it. awesome shape for $7500. my take on it, is that its just a noisey motor on start up and when it warms up its not as bad. im leaving it. thanx for your info guys. -dave-
