Post 9 days old and cracked windshield

Had the WRX for 9 days. NINE. I was on the expressway in the Schaumburg area, stupid construction... I got a small crack, I can't feel it from the inside and I don't think its gotten any larger in the one day that its been cracked. If it stays like this maybe I'll ignore it...but...

I stopped at Roto Subaru and the dealer said he's never heard of any Subaru windshield problems. Ha, riiight. They won't fix it, of course.

Any recommendations about what I should do about this? Any cheap places to get it repaired or replaced? Can I get a better quality windshield from somewhere? dada mentioned getting the crack filled?

I've never had anything like this happen to me before so I'm not sure what I should do...

Try calling your insurance company and see if they cover cracked windshields. Some cover it for free and will either fill it or replace it. Hey, it's worth a shot if it's free.

Mine has had a rock chip in it since August and no cracks or anything around it. I've just left it alone and I figure I'll replace it sometime in the future when the pitting gets too bad, or the scratches start to drive me nuts (don't ask).

with most windshields, either you cover it with solvent, replace it or it will spread all over your windshield. Heh i was in my friends junky woody over the summer on the freeway outside of san fran, trying to apply the stuff and reattach his rear view while on the road. lol

Both 8Complex and I have what looks like mini craters all over our windshields. Mine tho looks more like its been sandblasted (gotta stop following those sand trucks!). Haven't had a crater spread, but if you have a crack it will likely spread over the course of the summer and winter (more likely in the winter with the defroster running).

If you find a good source for replaceing windshields, let us know.

Windshields are DIRT CHEAP at any reputable windshield replacement shop. I've had my windshield replaced for under $150 ON SITE in probably less than an hour.

I was planning on changing my current windshield again, but I get cracks or chips an average of once a month. The Subaru windshield angle must be prone to it (I have gotten 4 chips or cracks in 6 months) and in my older cars, I never got one. So I'm waiting.

Unhappy

I just got 2 small cracks yesterday from two different trucks carrying gravel 5 min apart. Boy was I pi$$ed. I called my ins co and and they will send a truck out to my work to repair them for free. I think they inject it with something to hold it together and make them dissapear. I'll let you know how it works I'm having it done monday. Worth a call though to the ins co.

Take a look at your contract/receipt, you should have a bumper to bumper warranty. Now i am not claiming that it is covered, but i would call the dealers customer service. Ask them what it covers, then ask if windshield would be covered, get their name if yes, then get transferred to the service dept. & have your windshield replaced.if it is not covered then do the insurance thingy of pay for it yourself wichever is cheapest. good luck.
