Default Where to go for tint

Sooo.. anyone get their rex's/rs's tinted in MA or CT?

My car audio buddy says that the only good tint jobs he's seen lately have come out of CT so I'm curious if anyone might know where they might have come from.

Apparently, MA has just enacted some laws so that you can only have 35% tint on any windows that roll down- I went to a shop and they showed me a sample of 35%, and it's BARELY tint- my windows are tinted, and they appear to be only slightly lighter than 35%... :-(

I still want to have mine done, but I also don't want to attract any undue attention from the Law. Anyone In law enforcement here to tell us whether they bother to enforce this new law or not?

Tint King in Billerica, MA and Sonny's in Saugus, MA, do good work.

The tint laws are not that new in Massachusetts. The thing that has changed is that with the Enhanced Saftey and Emissions testing, shops are required to check the window tint. So, even if the police don't stop you, you will have problems when you go in for inspection. I guess you could find some back alley inspection station, though. But I have heard that they are cracking down on these places. Most inspection stations are legit now because fines are huge if they do something wrong. Places had to invest alot of money to get new testing equipment and don't want to lose it. I have had limo tint on all my previous cars, and only last year did I have a problem. Because of the new inspection guidelines, I had to remove my tint. I have the legal limit on my WRX and it looks good. Dark interiors help make the tint look darker. I don't want to play with the law, so the legal limit is fine with me. You can go darker on the rear window as long as you have two outside mirrors. But I figured that gives the police a reason to pull you over and check the other windows. Plus I am outgrowing the pimp daddy stage.

I have been trying to decide on tint for my 98 RS as well. I wanted to go 5% around the back and the legal 35% up front. As for mass laws, they are a pain in the ass but its understandable as a police officer cnnot see in your car and thus could be himself in danger.

I had 5% around the back of my thunderbird and got pulled over for speeding and the state trooper added on 250$ for tint being too dark if that sways your decision. I have a friend who does incredible work near Lowell Ma with vinyl decals (he makes them) and tinting. Its about 15 minutes from billerica so its not out of the way. I am personally going to put 35% on my front windows first see how dark it is on this car, then I will decide what to do on the backs. I have a RED RS with dark interior so maybe I can get away with lighter tint looking better.

Just to add some fuel to the fire, because all windows come through with some factory tint, when you apply 35% (legal tint) to the car it registers as 31%ish and is thus illegal. Sounds rediculous huh. I was at that guys shop and a car came back and they needed to put 50% on the windows because that is the next lightest and the guy got pulled over and fined as the tint meter returned a 31% reading.

Moral of the story is, do what you want to do, I dont think they can pull you over for the tint being to dark but they can pull you over for anythign else and then fine you for the tint. Most cops are nice but theres always that one having a bad day.

Oh hey any of you in Massachusetts that have some modifications to your RS please let me know as I am interested in seeing some of the things that are done as I want to do some to mine but would like to see it already on something. (exhaust, intake, nos kit...)
