Default SCI Schedules Premiers for Vancouver Auto Show April 1

Subaru bring its full line to show

Special to The Province

Friday, March 18, 2005

With just over two weeks to go until the 2005 Pacific International Auto Show in Vancouver, the big guns are pulling out the stops to woo would-be buyers.

In running down the list of who's bringing what, it's not surprising to see the likes of Honda and GM shipping million-dollar displays aimed at convincing the car buyer of the superiority of their product.

What may be a little surprising at first look is the big display by the (relatively) small group from Subaru Canada. For the '05 show, Subaru is bringing its full line of vehicles and will feature several very cool first-look opportunities including the North American debut of the Impreza RS SE Wagon, the Canadian unveiling of the 2006 Forester, as well as the Western Canadian unveiling of the 2006 B9 Tribeca.

Why Vancouver? Subaru knows its market, and its market is all about the West Coast lifestyle. Subaru sells its fair share of vehicles across the country, but in a province full of outdoor enthusiasts Subaru is as natural a fit as rock climbing shoes on a Squamish-raised teenager.

Take the new Tribeca SUV: Shockingly cool in styling, the Tribeca holds its own against Lexus and Acura offerings, boasting a younger, funkier edge. Almost aeronautical in styling, the Tribeca is a natural fit for busy, but image-conscious, urbanites looking to hit the beach or mountains for some weekend R & R. And, with seven seats, the Tribeca is big enough to hold the whole family and still have room for the ski gear.

The Impreza Wagon was introduced in 1993 and since then has stayed a consistently top-rated vehicle in both customer satisfaction and vehicle performance. Over the years, it has been available in all-wheel drive or the occasional front-wheel drive and a variety of engine sizes.

The new RS Sport Wagon is equipped with a standard 2.5-litre, H4, 165-h.p. engine. It's available with a five-speed manual transmission (overdrive is standard) or a four-speed automatic with optional overdrive.

The 2005 Pacific International Auto Show runs from April 1 to 10 at B.C. Place.

and will feature several very cool first-look opportunities including the North American debut of the Impreza RS SE Wagon

I thought that model already debuted some time ago in Canada? Is this the '05 model, or facelifted '06? There's something screwy here...

It is the 2005 model. In general, Subaru Canada does not reveal the up coming model until a year later, except Tribeca which is a brand new model.

I am surprised that 2006 Forester is being in the auto show though.

The RS SE sedan was unveiled at the Montreal Auto Show in January. Now it's the wagon's turn in Vancouver.

That article is wrong on a couple of counts...

The Impreza RS SE wagon was at the Calgary auto show (held last week), as was the Tribeca. I saw them there myself. So much for factual journalism.

Doesn't "Special To The Province" as a byline usually mean it's an article in an advertising supplement with the text provided by the ad agency? You know those phony/fake journalism supplements that run about 90% ads and the rest are fake stories. It reads that way too.

"shockingly cool in styling, the Tribeca holds it own..."
