Thumbs up Redline Tuning Hood Quicklift/Dampers

Got them installed today:

The install took about an hour with my brother and I taking our time. I got the Standard ones from Bryan at JnJ Associates in the Vendor's Classifieds. Everything that came with these are of great quality and have a two-year warranty. One of the best mods I've done to date with a great price to boot

Yes those require drilling, but they are much more out of the way when open and are cost less than the Teins.

see, i'd personally have to go with the teins because i wouldn't want to drill into my aftermarket hood. i already did with the hood pins.

I installed mine last week. I got the same deal from JnJ for $52.

I love them. Price is great and they are out of the way when working under the hood.

You do have to drill. And you will need a pop rivet tool. They use pop rivets in the hood mounts because I'm guessing the aluminum won't hold sheet metal screws in the long run. Just be careful drilling as the drill wants to pull thru as you break thru the sheet metal. It can easily punch thru the top side up the hood or at least dent it.

There is no assists during the first 1/3 of hood travel. After that the struts pick it right up at a even pace. Latching the hood down is like normal. I drop my from about 3".

I gotta go check my oil again

Yup, but they're a bit out of my price range. This was just a minor mod for me, so no need for going all out and getting one that looks beefier or easier to install. The install was pretty easy and it works great. I never really even wanted it, but for $52 bucks I figured I dive into the world of hood dampers by not breaking my wallet...

Sad as it may seem- I like these simply for the color. TEIN is great stuff, but green? Anyways, the stainless do look nice and besides, I have a FRP hood, so I need some good dampers.

Hank, thank you for the kind words!

As we carry both Tein and Redline, we can offer both at a good price. Please check the vendor classifieds...

The Redline struts are a easy to do mod if you take your time. If you can install a stereo, or a cat back, you can install these hood struts.

just to add to the thread...
i'm VERY happy with mine. thought of the TEIN's but for the cost and how they were positioned, i liked the Redlines better. the different things i did were paint the brackets WRB and installed the struts with the stickers right way up

I fixed mine tonight

Took all of five minutes...

I didn't use all three rivots in the hood; in particular the middle rivot. The install guide said it wasn't totally necessary unless you had an aftermarket/CF hood. Seemed really hefty when we did just two, so we just left the middle one off...

I've had mine since about Sept. and they still work great, and I also like how I can shut my hood with one finger.

Straightforward installation took ~30 minutes to complete w/ great instructions. Just to be sure I did not slip & go through the hood I bought a set of General drill stops.

I was not aware of the Tein kit when I bought these but I cannot see how at 2X the price it could be 2X better.

I was amazed after installation how much roomier the engine bay seems now with the prop rod gone!

I have had the tein green ones before on my ol' wrx and they were alright. and i bought these redline's a month ago and installed them, awesome. differnce:

tein-
pro's= bolt to original bolts on the fender and hood, also are green if your into that?
con's= they seemed to be a little harsh opening the hood, my hood would bounce open
sometimes.

redline-
pro's= they are very smooth opening and look great (black).
con's= and extensive amount of modification under the hood. (i.e. drilling holes for screws and rivits)

I posted this in June of '05. Still have the car and these still work perfectly. Truly an OEM grade part.
