Yeah, but so many say that they couldn't afford a WRX but are able to spend tons of cash on mods especially if they are ready to lay down $2K+ to get their WRX to run 300hp. I got tired of driving around in my WRX worrying about getting pulled over for my exhaust (emissions suck in CA), worrying about if the dealer is going to care about the mods I have, worrying if the aftermarket ECU is going to do something wrong. Consider the price difference, consider the price of the mods, consider how much easier it is to just already have the power/handling, warrantied and legal. Just my 2 cents, enjoy

IF you're serious about getting 300hp, check out Vishnutuning or COBBtuning's websites. They both offer discounted power packages to suit many levels and budgets.

Appearently the red emergency flasher button from an S203 is worth 70hp. So that should put you in the ball park.

Why the need for all the WRX vs. STi battles.
If you look at the back of an STi it says WRX on it.
It comes from the same place and shares the reason most of us are here anyway.
Let it go.

OK, I admit it, I started a total troll post. My apologies, no ill-will intended.

I'm a newbie, hence the 'newbie' section post. I've been around for just a few weeks and the whole Impreza World is fascinating, wonderful, confusing, and mostly curious to me.

I didn't see a place like this when I had my Dodge Durango

Interesting mix, this Scooby world. One can take a car that's won award after award, including Consumer Reports recent 'Most Fun to Drive' - a champion rally car - and get more horsies, better suspension and/or better appearance out of it. That's pretty impressive, no?

I find people who know their stuff seemingly as well as the original Subaru techs, and in some aspects better (but granted, Subaru had to design the stock version for emissions laws, for all weather conditions, and for various driving styles.

Believe it or not, one of the first reasons I considered a WRX was for the AWD and therefore for driving in the snow. I look at my recently acquired and modded WRX and realize that with the lowered suspension, the super-sized hard low-profile tires - that the car will suck in the snow. Go figure!

No, my post was just to see what you'd say. I look at the forums and a recent thread is 'How did you blow your tranny' (not *did* you break it, but *how*).

Another thread was about someone who spend several thousands of dollars on mods and 'only' got 250hp. Was it worth the money? If you really want 300hp, why not save the cash and get an STI - the answer is often that people do the mods 'because they can' or because 'they think they can'.

Point is, I do see several schools of thought on these boards and it's always interesting to me to hear the underlying reasons for doing what you do. Did you lower the car because your stock center of gravity *really* wasn't right for cruising on Sat night? Or are you racing, perhaps even professionally? Or did you do it because so-and-so said you should do it? Did you first *drive* with the stock set-up or did you mod ASAP?

It's all good, it's just intriguing to me! WRX-pilot 'got it' right away

May I get a "Amen brother" to WRX-pilot!!! How true!! With all the money they spent on mods and attention, they could have an STi and quit complaining about it!

ScoobyNubieToo, I didn't want to cause a break in the time line, and have it skewed to some sort of alternate reality, so I went for the STi right away.

I really couldnt have afforded an sti when I bought my wrx. I was a couple grand under on my old car.

plus, I took one quick look at the sti and decided they were WAAAAYYYY too nice to use as a daily driver.

one year and 93 additional hp later, and I dont know what happened. the original plan was to stay stock or close to it

Ok,
I am seriously tired of people telling me and other wrx owners to get a STI.
I didnt want one because I dont like the Front and Rear lights.(And the price)

When we ask how to get quicker stop saying BUY A STI !! we are all not loaded to just go back to the dealer and drop more cash down on a STI.

I have asked other people about making more pony's come out of my WRX and they have been nice but most have been A$$ H@LES and tell me just dump the rex and get a STI...

I dont mean to get P-O_ED. Just a common WRX driver pet-peeve!!

From what I know and heard, that getting 300whp on Wrx is posibble for about 8grand that is.

Parts:
Full exhaust - header -back 2,500 varies by brand you get.
Fuel Injectors -450
Fuel Rails - 350
Fuel Pump - 100
Your Choice of Turbo - 1,500 or less
TMIC or FMIC - average 1,000
Engine Management - Element/Hydra or Eutek ECU piggy back - 1,000 ,1500
DYNO Tuning - about 3-4hrs. varies by dyno shop.

I might of missed something, but a 300+whp on paper = priceless

But once you trade it in for an STi, you will only try and get 500whp...
