I have extended warranty till 6yrs/60,000 miles.
Just went to the dealer today for three things: 1) clutch cranking noise problem, happened three times this month. Noise went away after the car cool down for 20-25 mins. 2) white smoke comming out from the engine bay 3) dash board rattle noise. I knew the clutch is not cover. But I did not know there is an inspection fees. The person put down an estimate to the problems above as follow. 1) $60 2) $60 3) $120 I am still not 100% sure what these estimate means and why the estimate is $120 for the dash board rattle noise and only $60 + $60 for both the clutch problems. They said if they found and be able to verify the problem, then the parts and labor will went into the estimate. However, if they cannot reproduce the problem, they will charge an inspection fees, probably more likely the estimate price. So, I told them forget the dash noise, I am not going to pay $120 to fix it. Turns out the white smoke was engine oil leaking from the oil filter to the exhaust pipe. So, the call me up and said they can do a oil change to put a Subaru filter on should fix it. They did a test drive and said the clutch is fine. Ended up I still need to pay $24 for the inspection for the clutch becuase they couldn't reproduce the cranking noise. Many clutch shop offer free inspection, why should I go to the dealer? May be I can do a free inspection in a local clutch shop to verify the problem before going to the dealer???? I looked up the extened warraty booklet, I wonder what is exactly covered? I am now thinking to cancell the extended warranty. CTP

I had an extended warranty on my 93 Legacy.
Never needed it. These days if you don't use your extended warranty, you can get cash back at the end of the term. That is provided you don't use it though. All the details should be in the Extended Warranty Booklet. Nothing that wears is covered unless defective - (clutch, brakes, tires, filters, etc) The book will detail it all if you look. There was a clutch shutter problem on the 02 wrx, so there is a technical service bulletin on that. Your dealer should know about it and have checked for you. Who is your dealer? Hopefully not Stevens Creek, search if you want to see why. |

My only question is about the inspection fee if there is no problem found. CTP |
