Question TD04-18T-6cm2 / TD04-17G-6cm2

Does anyone know if a TD04-18T-6cm2 or TD04-17G-6cm2 will bolt up to a 2002 WRX? They are much cheaper than IHI turbos, and I don't care about turbo lag...

Default Mitsubishi Turbos

Boostaholic,
If you can get some factory mitsubishi part numbers off of those turbos we will be able to tell you if they will bolt right up or if modifications would be needed.

I know you say you don't care about the lag...

but 6cm2 is just HUGE... you probobly won't be at full boost till about 5000 RPM.

I guess your going for a pure strip car using spray for boost assist... cause that is completely unstreetable off a low comp 2 litre motor. Supra... yeah.... DSM/WRX? Noper...

That is a highly uninformed opinion. 6cm2 happens to be the STOCK turbine housing on the DSM cars. And the 1st gen DSM's spool that with a little less compression even.

Expect spool in the 3krpm range with the 6cm2 housing. ALL of the upgrade turbos for the DSM's are at least 7cm2 and some of the larger TD06 based turbos have an 8cm2 housing.

Let's figure out which turbos fit without modification before we start arguing about which ones are good

Those turbo's you mentioned are tiny, spool up will barely be affected.

I have a td05h 16g 7cm2 turbo on my dsm and i get 15 pounds by 3300
rpm in 3rd gear. If you think this is laggy then you should switch to a v8 with instant torque, power isnt free you just have to wait for it a bit

Turbo lag is so overrated... Even with an enormous 60mm T4 turbo I'm sure we would still have full boost by 3500-3800 RPM. I do not know the part numbers on these turbos. Some Mitsubishi 3000GT guys use two of them. They have two TD04L-9B turbo's stock... and they upgrade to 13G's and 15G's. I'm going to assume that we can bolt up any turbo they can bolt up. If someone could confirm this we would be making a huge step.

I think the Stealth/#KGT turbos do indeed have matching IHI flanges. I remember hearing something to the effect of needing to order the front turbo from a 3KGT upgrade since the rear turbo compressor housing is clocked 180 degrees. Another interesting turbo would be the GT386. The folks at GTPro make some fairly large 3KGT upgrade turbos. I *think* the work with the stock 3KGT headers/manifolds so they *should* work on the Subaru setup as well. All this is heresay and I haven't done any checking to confirm.

I personally will be seeing what the stock turbo is capable of. So much funner with a challenge IMHO.

Good luck

I've asked about this a few times already ... I'm still waiting to see some results.

Anyone else have any information on bigger TD04 turbos? These are much more affordable than IHI and especially PE turbos...
