Default Oprah/GM's brilliant marketing move kills Pontiac G6 sales

Ok, so maybe that wasn't what did it in, but it makes for a better thread title. I remember when Oprah/GM gave away all these cars and OT was abuzz with the brilliance of that marketing maneuver. Looks like it didn't take.

As a domestic company, I wish GM would get their act together. As an automaker, I wish they would just give up already. Other than the Corvette and CTS-V, I can't think of a single car they have that appeals to me in any way. The numbers show I'm not alone.

Does anyone see anything unique or exciting about this car that would generate consumer interest? I may be missing something.

Give it time, another year or so, it will catch on. Esp. when the convertible model comes out.

A buddy of mine bought one with a GM friends/family discount. They are very "nice" cars but it has no appeal. If I were in the market for a boring car I would just go buy an Accord.

The one improvement, though, is no plastic cladding anymore.

In all honesty, I like the look of it on the outside.

just like the gto does and the grand prix and the bonnieville (sic)
they all look like bigger or smaller versions of the other ones and it makes me say 'meh'

It's not too bad between the front end and the B pillar and the C pillar and the rear bumper. That rear door is SOOOO long, it throws the proportions of the car all out of whack.

I'm surprised I don't see any around here. I swear every other friggin car out here is either a Grand Am or a Grand Prix. I think there was a rogue Pontiac salesman running around this area and sold a lot of people on a bunch of BS.

I would like to have a large sunroof... but knowing the quality (lack) of pontiacs i'm betting on roof leaks starting at 4K miles.

What are the performance numbers for the G6 GT?

EDIT:

Edmund's tested the GT model and the price as tested was somewhere just over $27,000

0-60: 8.5 sec.
1/4 mile: 16.17@super_low_trap_speed

The girl the next cubicle to me has just purchased an ex-oprah G6, because the woman in the audience didn't want it and took the cash.
Day 1 - battery died.
Day 2 - cd player died. An the cd player has to go back to the factory to get her cd's out because the dealership can't get into the unit.

the G6 sucks
technichally i drive a G5
G6 is just generation 6 of the grand am platform.
the pontiac grand am platform has been lacking power for EVER
3.6 litre V6 with like 140 HP at the wheels or some stuff. the car SUCKS but it is inexspensive, loaded with options and to the insurance companies the car is a VERY low risk.

IIRC the grand am at one point was the hottest selling domestic car in the US. and I belive ALL of us can see that by every time i go out i see a GA on the street, wether it be an older one or a new GT or SC/t the GA GT is kinda fun with the ram air and a little bit better options, but overall it is still a pontiac, and saddly pontiac and GM are lagging VERY far behind in the midsize preformance market.

GM should have made a SS grand am, one of thie rmore popular cars, instead of trying to make the cavilier MORE popular but tossing the cobalt name on it and superharging it. dumb ass moves make GM poor and thier loyal small to midsized car owners even more pissed. wich leaves them to move to the pacific rim to find cars.

cars midsized and small all comes from japan/asia
trucks come fomr america

with GM pulling the "power group" of cars, and now pulling the G6(one of thier best selling cars in history the GA) and dumping MORE money into thier trucks/SUVs

frankly i am goig to see one of the local subaru dealers this fall to grab a used forrester.

the grand am was the best selling car last year, ust not consumer sales, which is the normal thing you hear about becaue you hear abotu dealership sales
something like 80% of all grand am sales last year went to rental companies and fleet accounts

Webasto makes the sunroof, so it's the only part of the car that wouldn't leak.

An informed buyer would get the car at invoice $25,000 then $3,000 in rebates. $22,000 At that pric it's not to bad. However it is a boring looking car with low performace. They need to make a GTP model with 275 horse to turn a head or two.

As others have said, it looks like every other damned pontiac. Perhaps pinning all their hopes on a gimmicky sunroof for an otherwise boring car wasn't such a good idea?

An accurate critique, but I think that all cars are becoming more and more like one another across makes.
