Default a sweet used rs

hey, im looking at a used car. it has 114,000 miles. it was normally driven, pushed to the pedal once in a while. is 114,000 miles too much? how much is too much for a 98 rs?

i'm not an expert on suby boxers yet, but most modern engines will last 200 or 300K if they are cared for properly. That means oil changes, filters, etc.

Are there service / maintenance records? If so, and the price is good, just get a pre-purchase inspection at a local mechanic and go for it.

I'd go with it if the price is right. But as RodimusPrime said, ask for any maintence records. Take it for a drive, check all the normal things you'd do. But 114k isn't high at all if taken decent care of. Subies will last a great deal. And if ya buy it, I'd definitely just suggest you take it to a subaru dealership or a trusted shop and have them do a thorough inspection to see if there are any problems. Good luck with it!

Okay most important, the '98 is the bastard year. Only year that is the way it is. It is unique. I have one, and they are great cars. Find out if the timing belt and head gaskets have been replaced. That will be a good sign of if the car was taken car of or not. Check the oil to see if there is any foam in it. The '98 had the worst problem with the bad headgaskets of any year, so if you get it keep in mind you may have to deal with that down the road. Once you put good ones it though you should be set. Do not pay more than blue book for the car. I picked mine up for under 6k I think. KBB is around $6,500.

They all have relatively clunky, weak 5MT's.
