Arrow Silly but handy trunk hook mod

Ok so I had this rental Camery right and it had these little hooks in the trunk that I kept using to hold those chincy plastic bags you get at the store. I started to like how handy they were and somehow they ended up falling off and into my luggage. Anyway, I put one of these on each side. They actually work well and are relatively strong. I had to drill a small hole and level the back of the hook but it took only a few mins to do.

Question

AH, it looks like that wire you have in the pic is striped. you might want to tape that up.

It's not stripped it's just visable where the tape lets it show is all.

But you are right I should probably put some Loom or tape to cover that up...

Ok, I always wondered what that bar is for. The one to the right of the hook that is kind of s-shaped. Anybody know, is it a light strut bar structural rigidity type of thing?

It is used as a "spring" to hold th trunk lid open. Once the lid is opened to a certain point it loads the s-rod and it keeps the lid up.

I had little holes on the sides of my trunk in my '89 Saab. I used to put two bungee cords together and hook them into the holes to hold those bags from the supermarket up...

I use my rear strut bar to bungee cord the kids carseat in place back there when I'm not using it. Humm, maybe I could use it to bungee the kid in the trunk as well, heck the trunk is lined for a reason no? (j/k sort of)
