Default Moving to SF with modded WRX - need advice

Hey all. Been reading about emissions laws and an getting majorly bummed. I've got a 2011 erx with full exhaust - Tomei EL headers, Perrin catted DP and the invidia q300. I've also got the AEM CAI which is CARB certified.

Am I going to a) need to swap to stock to pass anything b) get pulled over constantly just for rolling around with titanium tips and a rumbly engine?

Also, am I exempt from a smog check until 2017 or no? Please advise. Thanks all.

First off, if you want good local info, go to I-Club, regional forum. That's where most Not-Cal parts, shops, local info can be found.

If your car is an out of state car, it will need to be inspected at the DMV to be registered. Your best bet it to swap back to stock just for this. After this inspection, you should not have major problems when its time to Smog the car. Some Smog guys might give you a hard time, some wont.
As long as you are not super obnoxiously loud the cops should not give you a hard time. If your forward windows are tinted, you might get pulled over for that, as its illegal to have them tinted.
Usually you will not have any problems unless you drive like a tool and your car is not super loud.
Use common sense and you'll be fine.

I don't see any way around that initial DMV inspection though. I have had to do this when I moved here. Perhaps someone else can chime in.

Try I-Club for more info.

When you say swapped to stock I assume you're referring to the downpipe - so the cats are there?

Yes. Cat backs are not the problem, but if you can make the car look as stock as possible all the better.

Once you are done with the DMV inspection, you can put it all back on. You might have to "shop around" for a Smog station when that time comes.
