Default Did EM, car still not right... NEED HELP!!!

I just had my car tuned using the ecutek software at harman motive. i didn't notice it till the other day but around 2900rpm, my car really hesitates until the rpms get higher and then everything is fine. I know there have been threads about the hesitation problem before but from what i've read, em is supposed to take care of it.

From looking at my A/F graph, it starts out at about 14:1 then goes to about 12:1 at 2400rpm then goes lean to about 16:1 right around where i'm having the problem at 2900rpm and then goes to where it should at 11:1. i don't think the simple grounding mod will take care of this. i asked the tuner and he said he didn't know what was causing it. i'm assuming the hesitation is the motor not getting any fuel at this rpm. what could cause this??? bad tune?? would the grounding mod work for this? i never noticed the hesitation until i upgraded the fuel system and had it tuned.

Anyone have any ideas?

Dan tunes pretty well, but if its hesitating and it goes to 16:1 (!!!) then I'd have to say that the hesitation is because of knock/detonation and you need to have it retuned.

I'll talk to dan tomorrow about it. He saw it on the graph and even pointed it out to me but blew it off like he couldn't do anything about it. Honestly, i don't think he tried to fix it.Couldn't he add some fuel in that area??

I'll also post the graph up tomorrow so you guys can see exactly what i'm talking about.

Any other ideas?

Tell them to look at the MAF voltage at that point, and increase the grams of air on the MAF curve. That will offset the lean spot. I'm guessing you have a larger MA F tube (ie Bigmaf). The other option is to just change the target A/F at that point to a lower value so it offsets to the correct A/F.

To say there is nothing that can be done is being lazy. This is a known "issue", and a workaround has existed for a long time.

That's exactly what i thought... he was just blowing me off and took my money. he only spent about 45min to an hour on the car and didn't even take it for a road test.

i think if i took it to anyone else they'd to a much better job and i'd probably get 10-15hp more.

I don't have a big maf. i'm running a hks 2540r turbo which relocates it and bypasses the turbo inlet hose. the intake, which is a 2.5" pipe, bolts right to the turbo.

Either way, i'm calling dan tomorrow to fix the problem. the car just stumbles all over itself until it hits high boost.

thanks guys.

Here is my dyno sheet. This is running at 15psi. The A/F go to about 14.3:1 at 2900rpm. I was wrong when i said 16:1. but from about 2500-3200rpm the car just won't go anywhere.

well, i guess i don't have permission to attach anything. oh well

You have 15psi at 2500-3000rpm? Or is the turbo still spooling up?

No, the turbo is still spooling up at that point. i meant the max was 15psi on my dyno.

No, i paid for it alright. at the time he said it was finished i didn't think he spent enough time on the car. about 15 minutes of that hour he spent going to the bathroom and talking to various custumers who walked in. it looked like he just flashed a couple maps and called it quits. he didn't take the time to dial everything in and i have a pretty custom setup that demands some time.

he was not my first tuner choice but the only one who was available, unless i wanted to wait 6 weeks for easy street.

I haven't been able to get my car on a dyno yet. As such, I don't know what my A/F ratios are at, but I have pretty similar hesitation problems, posted here:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...97#post9296397

I'm going to try the grounding mod soon, and see if that clears anything up. I also might try unmarrying my AP and see if that changes anything.

edit: Dan's contacted me and I should be bringing my car to their dyno this Friday

I hate to chime in on a thread like this - but I'm affraid we're not being fairly represented here.

The reason we had to cut the tuning time short was the turbo kit on this car (HKS rotated mount) has no beads on any of the charge piping. As such, the piping popped off repeatedly which didn't allow us to finish the tuning. I believe the orignal installer has since welded some beads onto the piping.

Furthermore, CJ already has made an appointment to come in on Friday to further examine his hesitation issue. As with all of our tunes, this service is included - any issues, any problems, we're going to take care of it.

I can't say I appreciate being portrayed as a lazyass hack - but regardless, we stand behind our tuning and our service and will take care of CJs issues.

Reputations are earned and burned here on Nasioc... I'm sure you'll take care of it, and earn a great reputation as a vendor/tuner who takes care of their customers.
