Default Seat update

Ok, the leather 2000 Legacy seats just don't cut it for me. I've tried to enjoy them, they look great but after 20mins or so I'm not all that comfortable. After using them for a few weeks, the heating element only takes a few minutes to warm, and warm nicely. The leather limits the heat but they still get warm. I got the heater switch trim piece and if the back seat was not part cloth, you'd never know leather wasn't standard.

I am going to order a Recaro Sport seat. After talking with my vendor, he recommended a Sparco bracket with a Recaro slider to gain the most headroom. The only way to get heated seats (from Recaro) is to go with the heat/cooling/power adjust version.

Leather:

Cloth:

This one might look good in a show car but as a daily driver, not sure about the red bolsters.

Any of you guys have any experience using a Sparo bracket on the Legacy/Baja platform?

Those bottom seats look real sharp, if you could find those in a power model that would be ideal for your color vehicle. I like the 00 year leathers you have in there currently. Are you very tall or whats the deal with not enjoying the seat fitment? ~ Brett

The Legacy seats bolted right in????
You didn't get adjustable up and down seats? Or are those power adjust seats?

Yes, the seats are a direct bolt in -- 4 bolts, very easy to do. So if you find a Legacy or Outback 2000-2004 you are set. I don't know about 2005 seats, those are a little more comfortable.

The driver seat has the power adjustment and heat. Oddly, the lowest position of the power seat is nearly identical to that of the Baja seat. The seat adjusts up from the height of the Baja seat -- if that makes sense.

I am 6'2" and I am use to seats with a little larger bolsters. Maybe I'm getting old, 35 this year , but my left leg starts to bug me and I end up sitting a little cocked on the seat to compensate.

I'm going to get one Recaro for now and see how it performs if it goes well, I'll get the passenger seat and put these up for sale. I also have the leather rear bench seat from the same '00 sedan.

I have a seat bracket coming, hopefully by Monday. Once I confirm that the bracket bolts in the Recaro slider and seat will ship out. If not, we are going to work on a customized bracket solution.

the bracket hasn't arrived yet but I went ahead a placed an order for a set of Leather Style seats. I saw an new V8 S4 yesterday and these seats are very similar. They should be here in about two weeks. I need to figure out some sort of pricing story for my wife.

Nice job with the swap, looks easy. Our 03 Baja came with leather already but when we have kids we may want a bench seat in the back. Were you able to get center position seatbelts in the rear?

i think the mounts may be there for center seatbelts. I haven't completely looked for them.

There is a metal "U" shaped hook on the bottom center of the Legacy rear seat, I'm not sure it is hooked to anything right now in the Baja. when I get around to doing the top part of the seat I'll take a longer look but for now, the leather bottom cushion is in and my son's baby seat back in. It would be nice to be able to put his seat in the center but I don't think thats not an option.

Someone can at least sit in the middle rear, just no seatbelt.

Default Recaros

I had Recaro Trends installed (power seat drivers side, standard on passenger side.) My wife and I are very happy, and would do it again in a heartbeat.
The stock seats are not comfy on any sort of long drive. I've talked to a lot of Forester owners that say the same. I did a 500 mile drive with the Recaro and only stoped for gas with no back complaints. Try that with stock seats!
The downside is the money (quite a bit), but think of how long you plan to spend driving and owning your Baja. You won't regret this upgrade.
If your in the S.F. Bay Area and want someone who knows what their doing, call Griffin Motorwerke in Berkeley and ask for Terry. 510-524-7447

Canman, do you have any picts?

I ordered the Comfort package on both driver and passenger and I agree, the price is a tough pill to swallow. But the seats can me moved to another car later if someone wants to keep them.

I ordered mine from www.polepositionusa.com They are in Arizona.

Well, Recaro hasn't been able to build the seats yet. I may cancel the order on Monday.

On a good note, I did help a fellow NASIOC STI owner install my Legacy seats in his '05 STI. He had a set of '04 WRX seats which felt great. He actually swapped a complete WRX interior into the STI, carpet door panels, etc. I bought them from him and will try to install them tomorrow and see how they fit.

Default 04 WRX seats

The '04 WRX seats bolt up just fine in the Baja. The driver side is height adjustable but the lowest position is about the same as the Baja seat, maybe a tad higher.

Did the WRX seats the STI without modification? If yes, I assume that means any seat that will fit the STI will also fit the Baja without modification. It would be helpful to know that if I ever get around to swapping seats in the Baja.

Yes, the brackets look to be the same between the Impreza platorm and Legacy. The WRX seat bracket had a slightly smaller hole on the rear outside location but the bolts are the same size. Installing the bolts loosely until you can get all four holes lined up was the only trick. So, if anyone comes across a set of STI seats they should fit just fine.

The WRX seat definately sits higher, maybe a 1/2". I noticed it on the ride in this morning. I don't think a helmet would fit, I'm 6'2". The WRX seats are much more supportive, better lower back support and rib & thigh bolsters are good. Entry and exit for me is a tad easier for some reason, I can spin and slide out with ease.

The only down side is I can't remove the passenger head rest for my son, he was trying to look through the small hole today.

Hmm those look very similiar to the seats I had in my Acura RSX, they must be made by a 3rd party manufacturer. Looks good.

I am local DC, where did you get the leather seats? I am interseted in the heated part. Mine is a 05 sport so I don't curently have heat. I don't think this is an easy fit w/o switches and wires, any thoughts???

Thanks

Mark

Mark - Octagon Spares in Felton, PA (just south of York, PA) - www.octagonauto.com

He had several sets of leather Legacy seats. Not all of them had heat.

The Baja did not have heat either -- it is not hard at all if you get the harness and switches with the seats. essentially, a hot, ground and dash light wire.

Got a call today that the Recaros were ready to ship. I said sure send them, so maybe next weekend? I'm not holding my breath.

Aside from being a little high, I think the '04 WRX seats are an excellent option. If you can get them with heat all the better. With the adjustabity of the Recaros I am hoping that I can have the support of the WRX seats and a tad more comfort.
