Accessport purchase: new or used?

I have decided to take the plunge and purchase an AP for my02 WRX with 25k miles on it.

Now the question is: should I spend 595 for a new one or get a used one for about 500? Is the warranty worth the 100 dollars? if not, at what price would it be worth buying it used?

They aren't wear items....buy it used.

Second the recommendation to buy one used if possible. Just make sure the guy you're buying it from knows how to unmarry it properly!

so true. i'd try to buy local and watch the person unmarry it.

thanks for the advice. There is not much chance of finding one locally though...I think there might be one other WRX in permament residence in my town (around 100,000 people in the metro area) and maybe 2 or 3 others that are here with some of the 15,000 students at the local university (WKU).

there are usually some scooby specialists on the boards selling them as they move past stage 2.5 or move up to STI's. I guess maybe I'll give that a try.

Buy used like I did and only pay $475 shipped.

I do agree that you need to buy from someone who is sure they unmarried it correctly and still has the car just in case they didn't do it properly.

I got mine used for $500 shipped, just made sure and mentioned unmarrying it over and over in communications and when it came to me, all was good. Just make sure they have the init connector and cables in working order. Most members are fairly trustworthy unless the just happened to join right before they try and sell you an AP.

Be careful buying used though. I recently purchased a used AP for 500 dollars from a guy here on the boards, and he sent me the UPGRADE one for reflashed ECU's (which you can buy from cobb for 200 dollars). I won't say his name because he gave me my money back. But his excuse was, "I was strapped for cash and needed the money to buy a bike. I didn't see anything wrong with making a little profit." Needless to say I was ticked. Anyways, just be careful.

Try to buy them used... no need to pay more for an item when it doesnt wear out...
