Default How to make a warble on a 2.5NA

So, how do I make my TS have a warble in the exhaust note like the flat four is supposed to have? I've got a STi cat-back on.... no improvement. I don't want to change engines to get that sweet sound 8)))

Any guidance is appreciated.

When I had my 2.5RS, I had the prodrive exhaust on it and it made the typical boxer burble. Most aftermarket cans should do it. Only problem is that many aftermarket exhaust will drone in a wagon.

Okay, you have to admit that was pretty funny.

Maybe the STi catback is pretty tame... Prodrive, Scoobysport, Brullen, Cobb... several are nice and "warbly."

STI catback(oem sti) is VERY muffling. you're not going to get anything but a nearly inaudible hum from it.

however, no cop can give you $*** for it either.

if you want "the Rumble" as caplin says, you should go with a Stromung catback for the 2.5L

also, borla headers will give it quite the lumpy exhaust pulse. stromung and borla together-- sounds like hell has opened up underneath the car and sound demons are pouring out.

I have a dual-tip SS Stromung catback.. HOLY SMOKES batman, this thing sounds great. Paired up with cobbs CAI.. Amazing.. I just installed Cobb's Equal-Length-Headers and my awesome sound is gone, but the new civic wine is growing on me.. The Stromung catback and CAI Set-up is great.. I'm not sure what borla-headers would sound like with that pair.. good luck

I can attest to that. My set up: Borla Header > Stromung Hi-Flow Cat, Cobb/Stromung Cat back. It does not sound crazy loud inside the car at all, ecspecially on the highway. I had my friend drive it around the block so I could hear it from outside the car. I couldnt belive how mean it sounded outside of the car. It has that one of a kind boxer rumble for sure. I will try to get a some sound clips up this weekend.

Outback Sport Sorry to disturb a sleeping thread but...

I came across this thread in a search... (yes some people still use that feature of nabisco) Handsdown, do you still have those sound clips? I'd like to hear 'em to see how much of that so-loved boxer rumble can be had from our N/A cars.

From what I've come across...

unequal length headers = warble
equal length headers = ricer sound

There was a nice little rally clip on the forum somewhere with a wagon Impreza running Borla exaust. It sounded mean. I coun't really tell you where the clip is buried now though, was probably in the motorsports section or general. Search for maybe the terms Borla and video or something similar.

click for video!

by the way, equal length don't sound ricey. that's a myth. you can't make a car sound ricey just with headers, you need a poorly designed muffler and catback to do that.

the riciest subaru i ever heard was a 2.5RS that had a magnaflow N1 canister on a 2.25" midpipe and BORLA UNEQUAL LENGTH headers.

Default Warble on!

I installed a Cobb CAI, Stromung catback, and a Borla header on my '00 OBW, 2.5L NA and it sounds great. That will give you the sound you are looking for. I would reccomend getting the stainless Stromung, it will not rust out like their steel ones eventually will. They may only make them in stainless now, I do not know.

If you live in the middle of nowhere and don't have to deal with emissions, just take the entire exhaust off, from the block back. That'll give you a burble.

Buying headers based on sound is pure rice. Buying headers based on power is non-rice.

UM OK......because EL headers will make my car sound like HONDuh, I dont want that and EL headers dont produce much more hp than unequal.......IMO its not worth the extra money cuz you'd have to buy a cat and get it welded in since it removes it......so with the extra money I saved I can buy light weight pullies......HMMM RICE I THINK NOT!!!!!!!!!!
