Default CEL on - new headers...

Hi all, well I installed my Borla headers yesterday....drove the car all afternoon and all. Amazing the difference, the engine breaths better.
BUT...today in the morning driving to work suddenly my CEL went on..."OMFG".
Could this be because the ECU was not resetted when the headers were installed? What could be causing the problem?
Thanx

Pull the code. Maybe a O2 sensor. Lots of people post about this. some say header wraps works, others say it doesn't. Some saying pulling to redline works.

ninja edit: My borla header gets here Tuesday, so as of yet I have no first hand knowledge on this to offer.

I was looking for header wraps, but cannot find any....you can hear the air blowing through the header when you gun it.

In terms of red line, it has been there yesterday...and no problem...i was coming down following traffic 40mph...and "poof" CEL on.

someone guide me please, for the header wraps....

doing a search i came up with this...

http://www.centuryperformance.com/heatwraps.asp#Daytona

very intresting on what they say, and contradictory to all those who say that wraps are good.

Or, you can go to a header wrap site and read the exact opposite opinion.
Borla headers are T304 instead of the 401 they tested anyway. There are pros and cons to both sides.

my borlas are wrapped and coated... still get the good ol' p0420. I only seem to get it on cold, wet nights.

My solution.. I got a code reader to read and clear the codes.

My Borlas are NOT wrapped or coated and NO CEL.

First thing to do is pull the code and see whether it is even related. If it is from the headers than you are one of the unlucky ones and should do some searching on here to see what others have used to solve the problem.

good luck.

Deffinitly check the code . If it is the P0420 cat code there are a couple options.
1 . Wrap the header from the engine to the cat . Solved my problem
2 . A buddy of mine went to a hardware store with a spare O2 sensor an purchased a spacer to put the second O2 out of the exaust stream so the ECU will see a difference between the first and second O2's .
I sugggest the First option cause I spoke to a service manager about that very problem . He seemed to feel that the header length and position was allowing the exaust from the longer bank was being allowed to cool befor it hit the cat .

I pulled a p0420 too and I installed the PEP MIL eliminator. At first it didn't work, now it works like a champ Oh well. Others don't have so much luck with the MIL eliminator.

I installed Cobb's ELH with high-flow cat a few months ago.. After 140miles got CEL p0420. Bought the "HELP" brand spark-plug adapter mentioned by imprezzakc
.. I've been @ +1000 miles now and no CEL light.. I really do think this is your best bet.. There's a huge write up somewhere on this board about it.. It helped me out a lot. Let me know. I'll help you out with everything. Good Luck.

No offense, but I hope they're lucky headers instead of a lucky rawrFERNY

it is about the cat because the way the Borlas create a different flow and the O2 sensors, which are in the cats, are affected. Seems like some O2 sensors are sensitive enough for this to matter, and others not. You got unlucky and got a sensitive one.
