AP sync mode?

Just got my AP today...I bought it used. Trying to hook it up to my PC, but it keeps reading an error, and says to make sure it's in "sync mode"
I have no idea what this means, the AP screen just reads
" please choose a new menu to flash to ecu"
Press ok/cancel

I need help!!

i'm guessing you did not marry your AP to your car yet.

Hold down both arrow buttons on the AP and plug it in... when it starts up, it will come to a screen that says it is waiting to sync with your computer.
