Ok to run UTEC without immediate tune?

I'm putting UTEC in on my '04 STi tomorrow. I have high-flow cat TBE and have both the stage 1 and stage 2 maps and parameters downloaded onto the utec. I won't be getting it tuned until later next week... so my question if I hook it up to a laptop and everything is reading good is a tune basically just getting me more power or is there still a chance that the base maps could lead to unsafe conditions?

base maps are usually fine.. they are tuned really safe so if anything you'll be too rich.
