I believe there was a post on this before in the Canada Forum. The general thoughts were that it was illegal. However, there was no clear quotation of the law to prove one way or the other.

I'd have to ask my friend (pro drag racer) but I think he said this to me before...

I think he said it's legal... and you don't need a permit... because NOS isn't explosive (or a dangerous good).....

I know in Toronto, If you have the system installed you are ok - BUT if you have the bottle inside the car or hooked up you are screwed. BTW Nitrus Oxide is dangeously explosive when pressurized and can blow up just like any other gas. Yes they can reposses your car and they can take out the illegal conponents of the system. Same thing with an exhaust. If they tow the car to the impound, the mechanic will deem what is for off road use and take it off and charge you for the labour and tow and impound fees. Believe me it happened to my friend and there isn't a thing you can do about it. You have to choose your mods wisely.

Nick.

BTW, why nos? It is only good for drag racing and you can only push a 70 shot safely. Go TUUURRBO if you want to go fast all the time.

turbo is too $ man.
same as swaping the engine.
i also think of improving the handleing but i guess i can deal with it later.. caz compare to all other car we alreayd got the AWD. so i want to spend some bucks on Speed.
with the limited money i have, nos is the fastest way i can speed up the car.
well, if there is anyother way i can make my car faster.
spill it!
any advice is good man.

thx

As Steve (spt) has already posted, NOS is definately illegal...in Alberta!!

As for other Provinces......I don't have a clue!!

BTW, you're garuanteed to make short work of your motor if you do not have the proper fueling system in place with NOS. Stay away from the "Dry" systems and the "Wet" systems should have an alternate fuel supply seperate from the stock injectors.

NOS is definately illegal in Alberta, but getting caught with NOS is another thing entirely. I'm not sure if its illegal to install on a street car or is it just illegal to use (turn on) while you're on city roads.

I would definately recommend against a NOS system. It gives the biggest bang for the buck, but it causes excessive engine and transmission wear. If you're thinking of NOS cause its cheaper than a turbo, think again. It's more expensive in the long run because of the damage to your car.

It should be noted that Turbo also causes more stress on an engine too, although not nearly as much as one shot of NO2. Supercharges, although generally not as powerful, are slightly cheaper than turbo and has less maintance (if you choose a good brand).

chinaman - just labour alone @ a good Subaru dealer is over $500CAD (w/ tax) to install cams. Rates at Subaru of Calgary are $75CAD/hr. For $1000CAD, you won't be able to buy and install cams. (unless you install it yourself)
