Default Finished my suspension. Comments Please.

Actually i finished two weeks ago but didnt want to post anything just in case something went wrong. 2 weeks and 1200 miles with no problems so i think i did a decent job (it was my first time). Took about 6 hours with a lunch break, using all hand tools.

H&R Springs with KYB GR-2 struts.
Total Cost: $300

How do you like it so far, and how did this cost only $300?

I've seen the struts for about $60/each plus shipping, so that is ~$260 with shipping, and the springs new are like another $240.

Any chance you'll be in the Southern NH area in the future. I'd love to drive your car (or go for a ride). I'm considering a similar setup for my 2001 L.

BTW: Car looks great. What size tires are you running?

springs were 100 from a kid in NJ who got coilovers for xmas. The struts were $50 a piece at advanced auto. Tires are Pirelli super sports 205/45/zr16. The car handles great and looks much better too. The ride isnt too harsh but def. more stiff than stock. Overall i love the setup especially considering what it cost.

As for being in NH im sure i will just have no clue when.

Cool. I had a '99 RS with stock struts and Eibachs and really liked it. I figure what you have now isn't much different.

Where in Ma are you? Maybe I can come meet up with you sometime. If not, I'm in southern NH (Londonderry, Exit 4 off RT93). Drop am a PM or e-mail if you are going to be in the area.

You are correct. We talked about the Kyb/agx w/ eibach combo. I don't think the Ver. 7 springs can be used my the older GC8 (99-2001) body style.

E-mail if you want to talk more about it. I'd be interested to know if the Ver. 7 springs lower the car or not.

My opinion?

Biggest bang for the buck I have heard of in a LONG time. The GR-2's are a very overlooked and underrated damper, perfect for the average aftermarket spring.

For $300 you probably have what? 239847892374923874 times better handling??

I think you should toss another like $75 bucks at it for some used RS or WRX swaybars and outhandle WRX's for under $400 bucks.

I agree with Dave. The GR-2 is a low buck, decent performing shock. I actually bought these when I ran my neon racecar. Against all the Neonites advice, I went the cheapie route and ran the GR-2's with Mopar X-Hi rate springs. The car handled great, in my opinion. I believe I paid $49 at Tire Rack at the time.

I have a 17mm WRX rear sway bar now. I wanted to add the KYB GR2's, a set of lowering springs, and a rear strut bar to finish things off.

Luckly the car only has about 40K miles on it, so I'm in no rush to replace stuff. I really don't want the KYB AGX's, but if they are cheap used so be it.

1. I had adjustable struts once (konis) and all I did was screw with them at autox and not enjoy myself.

2. The GR2s are way cheaper (when buying new), and I know more than a few folks who weren't happy with the way the KYB/AGX's held up.

Plus, I really liked the RS with stock struts and springs.

Yup, I had a 19mm on the RS, and 17" Prodrive rims and Eibachs. I think keeping 16" rims on the L will help with ride comfort, and I really like the 17mm. Car is a bit more neutral.

hey sorry to bring this old thread back up but im the "kid" who sold you the H&R's. I was clearing out my pm box and realized you never showed me pics and searched and here you are. car looks good. you def got a deal on those springs. haha i was about to pick up my coilovers when my car got stolen. i got the car back with damages (i have a thread here and someone on the thread here actually found my car, DCBACON who is a cop, do a search if you're interested) so i said screw my car and coilovers. then recently, i started liking my car again so i wanted to drop it but didnt have enough for coilovers again cause i spent it all on getting an alarm, new starter, and just wasted my money. and so i bought a set of H&R's for $150.
cliffnotes: sold 95imprezpat springs for 100 to put towards coilovers, car got stolen. got car back and after a long time and falling back in love with my car decided to lower it and bought H&R springs for $150. my car looks like yours in winter mode:
(as in wrx wheels, coupe spoiler, H&Rs, etc.)

the drop isnt that bad, im on my stock L struts for now

Nice that red 2.2 looks just like my roomates. he had the h&R's with agx's. Drop looked exactly like yours. Now he swapped the h&rs for spt springs....too stiff for his liking.
