Question ne1 have the MRT exhaust

I'm wondering if it will pass our emissions tests here in the states. I realize that every state has different laws, but I was wondering if someone could give me the overall scoop on it.

Besides the fact you didn't search...

There is at least one thread on this in the correct forum. I posted it.

As far as emissions, it has passed a CT emissions test. I won't know for three more years (new car exemption in Cali). I don't see why it wouldn't pass the sniffer (my dual-carbed and camed Datsun can pass the sniffer), but it won't pass the visual if you have one. Check the pics in the NA forum and you'll understand why.

Thumbs down wrong forum and no search

I didn't do a search, because I didn't know if they offered a turbo exhaust and/or a non-turbo exhaust. There was a representative from MRT at a Subaru Dealership here in Pittsburgh and I spoke to him for a while. I did NOT ask if it was a turbo exhuast [ >= 2.5" ] or if it would replace the stock exhaust. Because I did NOT know whether they offered both or only one or the other, I did not know where to post this.

I asked him if it would pass the emissions test and he simply said "we can't guarantee that, but we've sold a bunch in the states."

Why would it not pass the visual inspection? It has a cat, it's just a bit tougher to find than the stock. As far as I know, they visually look for holes and to see if it still has a cat. Since it's got both, I don't know why it wouldn't pass. Not that it really matters, because they've got a sniffer here in PA.

But, if that old car of yours can pass emissions, then your sniffer must not be very good. Here in PA, they just upgraded the sniffer machines a couple years ago, and they are supposedly very strict.

Thanks for the answers, and I apologize for not searching or posting in the correct forum[ which I'm still not sure about.]

It wouldn't pass visual inspection because it is obvious that it is not stock. No factory header looks like the MRT setup. If it is not stock, and you don't have an exemption number, it is not legal. Doesn't matter if it passes the sniffer or not.

And if they get down and look and start to question, maybe they'll look in the book and find out the RS should have TWO cats instead of just one. Another reason to fail it.

As for my old car...I live in Cali, the sniffers don't get any better than here (read: more strict).

The NA exhaust is not 2.5" diameter piping, FWIW.

I'm the one who passed in CT... They look under your car with a mirrir to check if you have a cat... that's about it. Make sure you get in the line with the punk kid working... he'll be all into your car and overlook certain things.. if you know what I'm sayin'
