Default that sounded...bad

the other day i turned the key and it sputtered at about 200 rpm for a few seconds then sputtered a lot more at about 800 rpm then the tack zoomed up to 2500 and slowly settled to about 1100 like normal. the car seemed to be fine when i drove home. but the sputtering was very violent and actually shook the car. i thought it might be the battery being low on power and not quite being able to get the car started so it sputtered. and it is the stock battery so its 6 years old...any thoughts/suggestions would be much appreciated.

that happened to me in my old 2.2l OBS. it did it on a not-so-frequent basis, but happened enough that i got used to it. At first i figured it was the battery or the plugs, so i replaced them, but still had trouble with it. i honestly have no idea what it was, but i never had it not able to start. maybe its some sort of cold start? i did notice that it happened more often when i had been driving using a lot of accesories than if i hadn't.
