Default 2.5RS with EJ22 block?!

Hey folks,

I'll save the long story here (see "What a disaster!" in Vancouver forum), and simply say I've got a 2000 2.5RS with stock 2.5RS heads, but an EJ22 block in it. What sort of trouble am I going to run into with this? How easy is it to swap a block into one of these things? I'm a long-standing car nut, but new to the Subaru world. Who/where should I be looking (other than the wrecking yard, obviously) to get an EJ25 block back for this thing? Car's a daily driver, and I'm a big torque fan, so I don't want to be running around with less displacement.

I'd like to start hopping up my car (likely forced induction eventually), but I want to start off with what's actually supposed to be in there. Any comments anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Ryan

Ouch, didn't buy a carfax eh? Pretty bad they shaved off the EJ22 label, anyway if you plan on going with forced induction why not go that way now since with an EJ22 block with EJ25 heads your running a lower cpr which will allow for greater boost. Sounds like it may have been turboed before because of all of everything that was missing and done in the engine bay area.

I've got an EJ25 block for sale for $300. PM me if interested.

On a MY00 RS, it is MAP based and is going to over fuel and run pig rich on an EJ22 block...

Price just went up, but if you want to look in to turbo blocks:

www.subaruwrxparts.com

EJ25 or EJ22 (STi or '90s Legacy Turbo, respectively)

I know this is the n/a forum, but...

hey Ryan sorry to hear what happened to you.

Ade on VIC has a 98 EJ25 for sale so you can pm him about it. I'm not sure if he still has the engine or not tho.

personally, I think you should get refund from open road toyota. it's too much a hassle to keep the car. also, there has been numerous members on the VIC board who were selling their cars. ie, avenger (has a 00RS-T w/ 4pot for sale for 19000CAD, he's a mechanic and takes good care to his car), chizzow was selling his car and there was another red RS-T and white GC for sale as well although it was a while ago.

running around getting the car fixed is very frustrating, i really hope everything turned out fine for you.

as for the block, if you want to build up a turbo engine consider EJ257 short block and EJ22t long block as mentioned by siper2 as well.

How do you not turn right around and take the car back! You should have taken it back as soon as you found out it was a piece of crap.

I dont know but if a dealer tried that in states they would have such a lawsuit thrown on them it isnt funny, just for selling the car with a disabled air bag light!

Contact a laywer, you shouldnt be stuck with this car, nor should you be paying for any repairs.

You can sell the person anything you want in the US if you sell it "as is". If you agree to the "as is" by signing the paper you forfit your right to bitch about it later.

That aside, dealerships should be held to a higher standard than that. Go back to the dealership, and be nice. Ask to talk to whoever is in charge and tell them that this car isn't what you were sold. If he says that he can't do anything, tell him that you are going to talk to the local new stations about this. Local news loves scandals such as thes, and that kind of advertisement is suicide for a car dealership to not do anything about if they have the chance.

You can bet I've been in contact with the dealer. Heck, I've got their number on speed dial almost. I did right up front tell them I was bringing the car back, but then they said that they'd make sure to cover the repairs. thus far, they've paid for about 1/3 of the work, and the guy who I'm dealing with over there has been on vacation up until today, so I haven't been able to finish the rest of it. we've been waiting for Subaru here in town to get in gear and finish the work.

I am actually going to talk to a lawyer this week to see what my legal options are to force them into paying for the whole thing. However, once I get this guy back on the horn later this week, I might just be able to get them to pay now and avoid the legal hassle.

In BC we've got the BCADA (BC Auto Dealer's Assoc.), and taking dealership complaints to them is more damaging than almost anything else for a dealership. If BCADA pulls their stamp of approvel from the lot, then they're basically toast, and BCADA takes complaints very seriously. I've got that option as well. And I also have plans to take the story to the local news both here in Victoria and in Vancouver. I know a couple people who work for the TV station here that love to get fresh meat .

Thanks for the points about available blocks, you folks are great. To be honest, I've gotta brew for a bit to figure out what exactly I'm going to do with this engine. But it's good points, for sure. I'm doing my research on this site to learn all that I can.

Hindsight is always 20/20 - kind of wish I had found this forum before I bought the car. Could have picked up a ride like Avenger's and had the custom work already done

Matt, I'll keep the block in mind. you're right, the thing is really running rich...you should see the soot on my tailpipe, along with my fuel efficiency!

SO it looks like the dealer who sold me the car is going to take it back, plus refund all the money I've spent on repairs. Problem solved, thank heavens!

Cheers
