Default Screaming noise!!

Hey all, I'm posting this for one of my coworkers who is the proud owner of a new, 2005 Baja Turbo. She loves it, but she's having one small problem. There is an intermitant screaming like noise comming from what she described as the frount of the driver side window (or close to that area). It seems to make this noise irregardless of what speed she is at. It's fairly loud, she says, and quite annoying... any ideas?

It may be the weather striping by the windshield, a search sould get some info on it, I think the dealers were using silicone to reglue it in place. Mine also makes noise from the side windows in strong cross winds, pulls window from good seal on the weather striping.

You hit the spot man. I had the same issue when I go pass 80mph. I took it to hte dealer and they used RTV silicone and the hissing is gone. It was a warranty job.

I must be lucky, I haven't had any of these noises on my 03. Even when driving into some pretty strong winds. Trying to make everyone understand the noise on here is a blast, though. Lots of good descrips. Mike

I drove my friend Baja this weekend and it made the same noise from both sides of the car! That is why I came to this fourm. Is there anything that can fix this? She said Subaru told her well it's not the Legacy. You should check out a Legacy if you want a quiet car..

I'm sure it's the window seals.. sometimes I leave the window down a little bit and have to check everyone because of the noise

I have the same problem ( high pitched kazoo like noise on drivers side windshield at high speeds.) I took it to the dealership, (Subaru of Santa Cruz-Awsome shop!), and took it for a drive with a mechanic (Rusty). Rusty was able to duplicate the problem, and thinks its the weatherstripping. I need to make an appointment and have their glass guy look/fix it.

I had to have my window mirror gussets replaced on my 03 baja but as far as i know, that has been taken care of after 2003. That probably isn't the problem with yours. It may be the weather stripping like canman mentioned. Also, do you have more noise when your inside flap is open on the moon roof? That may also be what your hearing when you have wind cutting against the cross bars.

I noticed it last week while hitting speeds above 80 mph also. At first I thought it was my newly-mounted license plate in the front, but my passenger at the time told me it seemed to be coming from the front driver-side dashboard. We later pinpointed it to the window as right when the sound was occurring, I had my hand on the power-window switch ready to open the window, and sure enough, it went away at that moment. Seems when the wind catches it just right, it moves the glass away from the weatherstripping enough to create a very high-pitched screaming sound. Did not notice it on the passenger side. Notice there isn't a full-frame around the window like most cars. Also, seems windows are rather flimsy when all the way up. They don't seem to be supported that well, but maybe it's normal.

Also, has anyone noticed their driver-side door tends not to close as easily as the other doors? Seems mine never closes all the way the first time, so I have to slam it a little harder. Not real hard, but harder than the others anyway. Maybe just a weather-stripping adjustment or something. But if someone could go to their Baja and close each door with the same force, does more often than not the driver door not close all the way the first time?

My weatherstriping came loose on my passenger side door. I had to slam it harder that the other doors until I took the door apart and put the wetherstripping back in place. It came out at the bottom of the door.

As the car goes through the air at higher speeds, the glass tends to get sucked out and away from the weatherstrip. We used to have these problems all the time in the mid 80's on the Olds Cutlass 2 doors. They didn't have window frames either. The glass could be tipped in at the top to make it seal better. This would cause the door to close harder, as the glass would hit on the weatherstrip before the door latched on the striker. You could tip the top of the door in also, it works the same, but the body lines might not line up correctly, and the door will also close harder because the glass hits the weatherstrip before it latches. We used to have foam stuffers that you could put behind the weatherstrip, to move it out closer to the glass. I used to make little standoffs out of old coat hangers, to move the weatherstrip out towards the glass more. The glass could also be moved in or out front or back to make adjustments also. It all depends on what Suby has in the door for adjustments. This stuff is a pain to fix, and pay the tech next to nothin in the warranty book. So most dealers hate to do this type of thing. But if the dealer has someone who knows what to do, and fixes it right, you will be a very happy customer, and tell your friends about how good of a job they did on you car, getting rid of that dam noise. Because the car is "air tight", the air inside has no where to go when you shut the door, hence the drivers side door "bouncing back a little"

Try this, close the door like you normally would when you know it doesn't shut all the way. Then try it with the pass side window or door open, or even the sunroof. It will probably close every time, not matter how soft/hard to close it. It has to do with the pressure inside the cabin

If for some reason it doesn't, you door probably has to be aligned a little

I had the same problem - some clear window seal/silicone will solve the problem. I dabbed some under the windshield weather stripping (you can pull it back a little) on the driver side, where the roof line breaks for a plastic type of insert that lines up with the roof racks. That pretty much solved it.

Hope that helps.
