IMO rear sway and endlinks beat the hell out of everything except springs/coilovers
oh yeah if you do decide to go with the endlinks get poltec hub mounted endlinks they are the best.

Do rear sway bar and endlinks. This will completely change your car.

Improving handling makes driving more enjoyable. Loud rap music makes you deaf. Window tint and/or a big wing makes you more likely to get a cop's attention. Shifter kit and tranny mounts just alter the feel of the car.

so what kind of sways are you guys running with? whiteline, perrin? i don't want anything too big. i'd be happy with finding a 20mm wrx rear sway and pick up new perrin mounts and endlinks. thoughts?

I have a whiteline swaybar - It seemed to stiffen it up a bit. But not as much as everyone claimed it was going to. I also think it was because I am still running my stock tires (Until Friday!!!) But of all things on your list to get, it just depends on what you think you want the most. I love music, and the first thing i did was a head unit and speakers. Performance gains for under 250 - you are pretty much limited to a rear swaybar, which is not a bad deal. Keep your eyes on the group buy section and also in the classifieds. You can save a ton of money that way.

In my opinion, save up another 150 bucks and get new tires, or just put the money towards your debt. Take it from me, it is better to get it taken care of now than to wait for it to pile up.

I've got a WRX wagon rear sway with Whiteline endlinks. Major difference. A used header is a good bet too, but I still say the sway first.

I'm pretty sure he MEANT less than $250 considering all the mods he put up can be had for under $250.

Meh, people misuse the "<" and ">" symbols on here all the time. Actually, I see them misused more often then I see them used properly. This used to piss me off because I do math, but correcting people when they're wrong in most circumstances doesn't go over well, so I gave up. It is a minor mistake, and usually the proper symbol can be gleaned from the context. It just makes me want to fund education more (idiots don't make me angry, they make me sad. Though, politicians and people campaigning for funding things other than education don't make me sad, they make me angry ).

Applicability:
Get the sway bars. All your other upgrades are worthless when it comes to drivability, so if you're upgrading for better driving, do the swaybars. There was a good article on Whiteline that outlined how dollar for dollar, upgrading suspension on our cars does a lot more than upgrading the engine. So do the suspension mods if you're going to do anything (on a budget). And on that note, the FIRST upgrade if you haven't done it already, should be tires. However, if you're going for overall enjoyment, my money is on the stereo (though that isn't much use if you don't do the deck and at least two speakers at the same time. I'd recommend an amp as the only way to go, since one can be had for cheap on eBay, but that'll definitely put you over your budget). I spend so much freeway time in my car that I'd die if I didn't have my stereo.
Don't spend money to impress others. Spend money to leave others behind. They will follow.
I'm purposely not commenting on the fact that your dinero isn't going to eliminate debt...

so now we are looking at a less than 200 mod?? i say take the girlfriend (other significan other, parents) out to dinner - or just go buy a round of beers for your buddies - and put the rest in your pocket to spend on other impulse buys. I love going to auto zone and just picking up things for my garage, it is a very bad habit that i don't wish to promote unless you are a total uber nerd.

I know... once the modding bug hits, it is difficult to spend money on other things, but try it, it is a nice change of pace!

i think i'll still be able to scrounge up the money for the sway bar and endlinks. what about the mounts? are the stocks good enough? birthday will be here in no time, so maybe more mods to come?

thinking about doing the drum-disc conversion. just depends on how much labor will run.

I'm confused what this has to do with normally aspirated section?

Shouldn't this be in general or suspension (almost)?

I voted anway.

The swaybar and endlinks are all you'll be able to afford. Transmission mounts are good enough unless you're being mean to your car, and then you'll be able to be meaner to your car when shifting while keeping it silent, but the gears will take the harshness instead of the mounts allowing things to move around and make noise.

As far as the Drum-Disc conversion, labor will be costly since it is not an easy process. There are good writeups online on how to do it, but if you're not going to do it yourself, plan on around $250 for parts and easily that in labor, probably more.

Here's a rule to remember: The tip points to the smallest number. Or you can think of it as the mouth of a crocodile, it always wants to eat the larger number.
