Default I need an independent Subby mechanic in Berk/Oak

Hey Guys,

Unfortunately, I no longer live in the Berkeley and can't just do this work myself. But the short version of the story is a guy in Berkeley bought an EJ25 shortblock from me for use with his EJ22 heads. Now his bonehead book trained mechanic is giving him this line of bull about how it won't work, etc. etc.

He's got $40/hour to spend on pulling his EJ22E, pulling the heads and all accessories, and putting them onto the EJ25 block and dropping it back into the car. It is pretty much your basic run of the mill shortblock replacement.

Anyone want this work or can steer him towards a shop that will do it for him?

Thanks for the quick reply, but Gruppe-S or LIC will charge an $85/hour rate. Not looking for a speed shop, looking for someone like Griffen Motorwerks on San Pablo, but an old Subby shop instead of a VW shop...

He'll have a hard time getting any licensed, legitimate repair shop to take a job for $40 an hour.

I have a good mechanic in Pleasant Hill, hes not a speed shop and he charges ~$75 an hour for repair work. Those are the going rates out in the Bay Area.

Yeah,
I realize the $40 an hour is slim. I was just hoping that someone who has garage space would step up and offer to do the work. What I do around here is bill that rate and have the owner of the car play wrench monkey and teach them what is going on while I do the work. Paid my rent for the better part of a year that way and built two streetracers for folks this winter...
