Post Michigan Members - read here

I would like to build a list of MI (namely SE/detroit area/tri county, but others welcome) members to try and get some more group stuff going, meets, participation in SCCA evetns, etc. anyone interested in being included please drop me an E-mail or PM. I would like to see some more participation from you guys, we had a good turn-out for fred's meet, but it seems that the club participation ended there, let's try and get something regular started up, gather more members, and generally spread the impreza joy and just imagine a half dozen rs'es pulling up at some event
(I know there are more of you out there than the 3 or 4 of you i see regularly... make yourself known)

Thumbs up

Are either of you on the SEMSO list? semso@yahoogroups.com or something like that...

Regular meetings would be great.

I'd also recommend checking the SEMSO list (@yahoogroups.com) There's already a pretty established group of us impreza relics, no need to start from scratch. It would be quite easy to start something meetingwise via that list.

I am not assuming anyone is in. I am doing this to build more of a tight-knit group, so I am making it strictly opt-in, anyone who doesnt send me a message saying they want in, doesn't get in (this means you michiganrs since i think you probably want in ) same goes for the yahoo list, i joined it to see what's up, but i want people who are going to have some dedication to seeing a group of friends form here. I'd love to see us get together on a weekly basis, even though i know it won't happen, monthly would be nice, i'm not going for a huge group either... for all the reasons listed above, now i'm just rambling... so anyone who wants on my list gimmie a PM or an email, currently I have:

Me
Damian
hondaslayer
JC
subywan

as soon as i have 7-10 people, or it looks like there aren't many more people interested i'll try and get our first get-together set-up and distribute the list to the members so y'all can keep us informed if i miss an event. maybe if i get real motivated i'll bring my web server online and make up a little page for us all, give everyone a little space to post pictures and shiznit like that... have to see how sucessful this is before we see how motivated i get to make it good maybe we can even get together install parties (i work in a high school.. can you say auto shop? ) or some group buys.. with everyone in the area we can save some on shipping. Mostly i want to have fun with other impreza guys who i know will come through

MichiganRS how about the vette shop lot by the car wash there.. it's harder to get lost there than the ramchargers lot, and we can just shine our headlights and fogs out into the street and everyone will be able to spot us

i'm slow tonight...
JC: what kind of party, friends party, frat party or rave party?

michiganrs: abotu the hodges WRX meet, let me talk to the sales people there, they love me, actually gave me the keys to a WRX when i was there the other day, said to call back next week and they may have one i can drive...

everyone: As for rally/autocross events, i was thinking of approaching hodges about some help/sponsorship for these events if we work as a group and give them recognition etc. maybe help with entry fees, or an easy up or something for our "pit area" at the events, maybe a mech to help us out at events, who knows... i'll get together with a couple of you or all of you to put together a real professional-type proposal we can take them

Great idea when I was into VWs I remember going to a meet at the suburban VW and they forked over a 1000.00 check and someone said thats less than last time I was like whoa! That would be great if we can get things rolling. Maybe we can all put our heads together and get a field for rallycross and goto the Detroit region scca and see what we can do. The vette lot would be perfect to maybe I can finally finsih getting the underbody gunk off! heh.
What time 5pm Friday?

I'm game for Friday around 6'ish. I'll be on my way home from work. Unfortunately, I'll only have about 300 miles on the car by then, but we can still go for a ride!

A girl from my friends frat, ok it's like an engineering honors frat or something I don't really know or care, is having a house party. I dunno, I don't have to go or anything, but I would feel bad. I can probably make it at six though, if someone tells me where this place is.

aww mang, i was hoping for a rave this weekend
you can run by MR C's with me saturday morning michigan
JC - I can make you a map and directions if you'd like.. it's pretty easy, you go east on 94 from AA to gratiot (exit 220 or 230 something not the first one) then you turn around and head back south on gratiot about 3 miles, Vette shop is on the right and has a big lot next to it and a coin-op car wash
Hey MiRS maybe you don't want to wash the mud off.. one of my friends used to get his undercarriage all muddied up with "clean" mud to protect it from salt and shiznit over the winter.. it appeared to work allright for him.. his car wasnt in the best condition when he got it but it's not bad under there...

Sorry, no raves. I'm way too much of a nerd to know where any cool parties would be. You're gonna have to draw me a map or somethin', because I'm already lost.

Okay, take I-94 east (hopefully you understand this much )

There are two Gratiot exits. The first is in the ghetto...don't take this one. About 5 miles north of Detroit, you come to the second Gratiot exit. Take this one. You'll automatically merge onto Gratiot, heading north. You have to do a U-turn and head south on Gratiot instead. The Vette shop place is near 10 mile road, I believe, which is about 3 miles down.

Here are some of the events we've done in the past year through SEMSO, and personally I'd like to see it go even further in the technical direction:

The 2000 SCCA Sno-Drift Rally in Atlanta Michigan

March 2000 - 15 car meet at Subaru R&D facility in Ann Arbor. Pictures and meetings, then a fun 90 minute drive on some of the great gravel roads near Pinkney in Ann Arbor.

July 2000 - STi suspension install

Summer 2000 - various autocross events in SE Michigan, through both the SCCA and the Detroit Sports Car Club Council. Frank Geyer won the Local STS title in his 99RS.

September 2000 - Ann Arbor meet and 2000 Impreza Turbo rides, dinner.

January 2001 - Suspension install meet at Steve's place in Dexter. We installed Jeff's P1 kit and Fred's V5/5zigen suspension kit side by side and then lunch.

This summer: I'd like to have a meet/drive evaluation event, where people have the oppurtunity to drive and evaluate the different years and states of tunes of the local cars. I'll probably try to arrange to have both WRX wagons and Sedans here, and a 2000MY factory turbo car.

This summer, hopefully some more of the same. We had very good turnouts at a few of the autocrosses, and this summer should be even better.

This is the kind of activity myself and perhaps a few others would like to continue, including Steve's potential project to build a 3 door impreza turbo hatchback, and a EJ20 engine/transmission swap on my RS.

Ryan,

I joined that forum/mailing list/whatever it's called. I'm extremely interested, but that format is absolutely horrible. Is that by choice, or just lack of funds, or what? I know it's crazy, but something that ponderous to navigate totally frustrates me and makes me avoid it.

Personally, I would be willing to cough up some dough to get a decent board going. I'm sure I'm not the only one
