Default 02 sensor question

Hello,
i have blown the front o2 sensor on my car twice now.

The first time was due to an safc2. The dealership replaced the front 02 sensor for $140 for the part 60 for labor.

The second time i decided i didnt want to spend that much so i purchased the part myself, from a different dealership. It cost me $70. and i installed it myself. This was less than 2000 miles ago.

lately the car is acting up again. stuttering, and feeling down on power. I brought it to the dealership and they claim that the front 02 sensor is shot again. Is it possible that i was sold the incorrect sensor? im thinking maybe i was incorrectly sold the rear sensor and i installed it where the front would go. is this even possible? would it fit? what would explain the price difference in the sensors from one dealership to another if i was getting the exact same oem part?

any input?
thanks
Pat

Well i had the dealership replace the fron 02 sensor again. with the 140 dollar part. The car runs alot smoother and i have gained some of my power back. But im still wondering why the big price difference.

Narrowband oxygen senors are all pretty much the same. You just have to make sure you get the right size one and the right wiring (3-wire or 4-wire; the 3 wire ones ground through the exhaust pipe and the 4 wire ones have a ground wire). I think you either got a screwy one or messed something up when you put it in.

How did you blow your O2 sensor with the S-AFC?

I'd check and see if there is an exhaust some where before your o2. I had a pin hole leak, which I couldn't find do the mounted location, and I went through three o2 sensors before I found it. This was over a one year period.
Have a look just to make sure. The leak was between the header (y-pipe) gasket and engine block.
