Default Darn starter is really starting to go now

Sometimes it starts and sometime it does not.. Seems like if you tap on the starter with a Screwdriver using the handle end, you can hear the starter make a fant click sound. However if someone is talking to you at the time you will miss it.

Good thing the starter is easy to get to.

I think someone said the Solenoids are going out?

And it seems on rainy days it really hates that, but still testing on that.

I wonder how much would a new starter cost? around $200?

contact a dealership or a junk yard

subaru offers remanufactured starters

junk yards can yard em out of older impreza's (assuming this is for your 95)

It's the starter solenoid contacts. You can get the contacts for like 15 bucks, and replace them in 2 hours or so.

you can check out pics of the plunger & contacts here

You talking to me?

You can buy the contacts here
http://4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/...OnlineOrdering

for 5 bucks each. You need two of the A style

The reason hitting it works is that over time the copper wears down and the plunger doesn't make even contact with the two contacts. It makes contact, but not well enough to transfer a large enough current for the starter to start. Hitting it knocks things around enough for the plunger and contacts to make a better connection.

Yup.. happened to me again, I went to get gas, went to start the car and nothing.. So I pushed the car back, I had a friend start the car when I asked him to.

When the Plunger is not making contact you can hear a slight buzzing sound, but this time around hitting it with the blunt end of a screwdriver was no good. I had to use my palm this time around, and he went to start it and it started, so I drove the car down to my mechanic i'm going to have him do it since i'm already still pissed the car ran into a street sign.

well I picked up the car today, I told him what it was, but he still replaced the starter with a rebuilt one.. It's no longer a Mitsu one, which means it does not sound like the normal subaru sound when I start it, well at least thats fixed.
