Default ECU/EMS Options... Please read

Hi everyone,

Im relatively new to this site (just started my own username, used to browse under my sis's name whom owns a wrx)

In an old thread I stated that I was in the market for a new car and considering the EVO, SRT, and STi.

To make a long story short, Im in love with the STi and I think I'll end up in one by mid summer.

My only question is regarding engine managment, and possible routes to take.

If I were to get this car, passing emmissions will be mandatory because I dont want to have to worry about that stuff again. I will also be modding it, and want something that can really keep up with the task.

Knowing what I want, you will know I want to keep the Stock ECU and run either a utec style piggyback or a reflash.

Over on evolutionm.net, Dynoflash/Turbotrix are well known for their flashes and custom tune flashes, but who on NASIOC is well known for flashes? I havent seen much talk about flashes for Sti's.

Ive read all about a lot of the available systems for the Sti including; Cobb AP, Xede, Utec, Ekutec, etc but am confused on which would be best for me.

Cobb AP - seems only good for minor modding
Utec - not too crazy about it, but is a nice system, gotta love the map switching
Ekutec/xede - dont know much about
Reflash - ?

Things I would be considering; I like user end adjustability, and I know I can tune myself, I would like something on the cheaper side, and Plug and play is a must....

Hp goal would be around 400whp.

Ive also read that the stock ECU likes to pull a lot of timing above 17psi, how do these systems react with boost above 17?

Any info would help, even a link that may answer some questions.

P.S. what about map sensor limitations? When does it max out? Which Ems systems allow for MAF adjustment? What about the perrin big maf intake?

TIA

Remember the AccessTuner, with that you can tune yourself for whatever mods you want to add and flash with the AP.

But first you have to decide on the car, the SRT is a totaly different machine than the STI & EVO.

For that kind of power I'd say maybe a Hydra although I've done many UTEC's at that level of power with no problems whatsoever. What kind of turbo setup?

Hydra is a replacement ECU correct? If so not interested. Right now my turbo civic is in a position like that, but Id like to not have to worry about emmissions.

Well I would be doing a bolt on turbo, Most likely a FPgreen, 20g, or other options? ..with the Ultimate Racing EWG uppipe

I figure I could put on the following mods and hit close to the goal on racegas
-K&N shorty
-Turboback
-Ultimate Racing EWG uppipe
-pump, injectors, tune
-FMIC/TMIC
-Bolt on turbo
-race gas

Like I said before, Im in love with the STI, the SRT is outta the question.

But how much is the AP? and the Access tuner?

The AP and AccessTuner are about the same as the UTEC. SO I think it comes to personal choice. I like the idea of flashing the ECU, I don't like the idea of using piggyback. But I'm also no expert tuner.
