It has begun: GC4 EJ22 to EZ30R swap.
Well, the engine was delivered this afternoon. Here are a few pics to wet your appetites:
Top shot (crappy, I know) Engine model stamp: Wiring harness connectors (all sensors are there and hooked up): Passenger side head shot (motor mount and oil filter, too) Driver side head: Mick

Nice, aren't you afraid of ripping your tranny apart though? Or are there plans there too? I could just imagine a 6spd with it and some turbos.

In the next week (or two), I will be buying all the parts that I will need to finish the swap. We will most likely be using a stock ecu from an 05 H6 equipped vehicle. We will be trying to use the stock headers if: A) they fit and B) they aren't horribly expensive. We will be making a custom header-back exhaust with high flow cat(s) and resonators. We might even make it dual-exhaust with a x-over pipe. More details will be posted as we make progress.

I agree.... I am making over 300whp and have been using my stock tranny the whole time (over 1 year). It's all about the driver. |

I wonder if anyone would try to turbo this sucker... it's going to be a really tight fit like the other GC with EZ30. Interesting project though

I thought about putting a turbo on it, but it is a 10.7:1 compression engine and I wouldn't want to mess with it without changing out the pistons and lowering the compression first. This is a brand new engine, so I'm going to keep it stock for a while.

this is the dohc right?
will beinterstnig to see how pissed off the ecu is that its not sohc i would at lest start with the oldest h-6 ecu i could find the 05 ecu is a bad choice lots of wacky stuff intagrated into the ecu .. like the seat belts, secuirty system, hvac, radio etc |

I don't see how a SOHC non-avcs/non-avls would be a good choice to run this engine.

get the 05 ecu to run the engine...the rest of the crap should be able to be ignored like with my 02 wrx engine swap...and most of it is easy to wire up anyhow...and yes twrracing is twin turboing a eg33 engine right now

That is the plan. As long as it gets the engine running and I can eliminate any emissions CELs, then that's all I care about. I'll be running a couple of high-flow cats, so the spark plug anti-fouler trick should work.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=748513 Also Slack, FYI I just talked to a parts guy, and he told me sourcing all those parts(Ecu, wiring harness and components) would not be cheap, you may have a hookup but he estimated over 3k. he said he had to check an 05 bulkhead harness for a customer recently and list was 1035.00 that he remembered He also told me there is no getting around the Immobilizer system, you have to have ALL components for the ecu to run the engine, he knows i am doing a swap and this was a friendly convo so he wasnt just feeding me what subaru wants me to hear/think. I see no reason to even attempt a factory ecu, standalone will be much easier for this swap.

I have to be able to pass obd-II emissions tests. A stand-alone would make that next to impossible.

passing obd-2 is not gonna happen with an 05 ecu way way to many emmissions devices
buy a differnt chassis -get a standalone |

Yup swaps and emissions dont go together. If you plan to use a 05 ecu you are in way over your head and budget. Like Jaxx said you need a pre OBDII chassis. Honestly I see no point in this swap unless you pump 35 psi into a built engine to make some crazy hp not easiler attained with 2.5l Although it will have some bling if you get it finished.
