Maybe I'm cheap but I don't feel like paying $31.36 plus tax for a fuel filter. Are there any alternatives? Like taking the canister apart and replacing the paper filter inside?

man when you are messing with the fuel filter i think it is a wise investment just to go buy a new one... that is what i would do, much easier.

Much easier indeed, but you don't learn anything by shelling out 35 bucks for a folded up piece of paper inside a tin can, except that the auto industry has you right where they want you.

$35 is not bad considering that if you make your own new problems could arise thus req more $$ to fix but this is only my opinior.

Factor the price and humbling of going to a dealer/repair shop and saying the car doesn't run right after you "refreshed" the fuel filter in an effort to save $30... It's not like you're building a turbo here, or distilling your own gas; it's a cheap little part.

Hey if you want to save $30 who needs a fuel filter is just lowering your fuel pressure anyway just take a small pipe and bypass the filter completely and while your at it remove the brackets for the fuel filter to save you a couple ounces of weight. Not only that but that should increase your gas mileage 0.02% And the only inconvinenace is that you have to filter you gas before you put it in your tank, just whip out that notebook paper and fold it up whenever you fill up.

I think you should just cut your current one open and put some cotton gauze in there. Hopefully while you are messing around with getting it open you don't create any sparks or anything, as it would seem to me that would be BAD!!!
I get mine at Napa for ~$23. Jared |
