i thought about acquiring a nice (K&N or equivalant) cone filter and just mounting this on the side of the airbox on the L. what are your thoughts/opinions on this?

without a hoodscoop, the side of the airbox is a pretty hot place.
it wouldn't be a bad idea, but why not go the extra mile and get the piping required to locate the filter near the fender? |

well i don't know, my pipe actually goes into the fender, but i noticed a HUGE increase in top end when i put the cold air extension pipe on.
i think it's a pretty big difference. |

interesting...because i went from completely stock (stock filter, snorkus and all) to piping coming off the stock airbox (K&N panel filter) and into the fender well and i really didnt feel it. or maybe i just dont pay attention.

well i have a 2003 EJ25... so our ecus are a little different and our engines are very different... but who knows. do what works best for you. in my car, my top end was SMOTHERED by the box with no tubes attached, even with KN panel filter.

Cooler air does make a difference. So does humidity, altitude, barometric pressure, plugs, fuel, driving style, engines "tuned" state, exhaust, and other things.
Try it and see if it works for you. If not then try something else. |

isnt it every 10 dergress farenheit = 1 hp. well i doubt its more than 10 degrees cooler in the fender companed to the engine bay. so my thoughts were that the air is coming in faster when there is less tubing for it to go through meaning more power. am i correct?

I don't know enough about fluid dynamics or air velocities to create an educated answer to your question.
But I think you are incorrect about the tube. |
