Default First Oil Change

I did searches already but came up with wrx oil changes.

Now as far as the my 2005 2.5RS its at 1200 miles on it, I was wondering if i should change my oil already and if yes can I use 10w30 castrol syntec ( I say this specifically because i have 5quart of it sitting in my garage). I live in Texas and pretty much summer here already. please any help will be greatly appreciated. thank you- robert

Just wait until 3000 miles or like 3500 miles. I just changed my 2005 RS at 3000 miles this weekend. I would also stick with the 5W-30 they say to use and don't go with anything esle. I think my next oil change I will be switching to Synthetic as well.

As for oil filters go try and use a OEM Subaru filter or Puralator PureOne filter.

I changed oil when i hit 2,000 kilometers, which is like 910 miles, then I followed the service manual the rest of the way! either way you should be fine!

I would change now (get wrid of any debri from new motor) with "Dino" 5w-30. Then for the 3000, 6000 stick with the same "Dino" oil, just so the engine gets broken in properly. Switch to Full Synthetic at 9000 miles and use that from then on at 3000-6000 mile intervals.

my $.02

Use 10W30 in TX! The manual will tell you that 5W30 is preferred for the best fuel economy, but oil of a thicker viscosity is required in high tempuratures.

FYI, current Subaru oil change intervals and viscosity requirements are the same for all models.

wait for about 3000 miles. And make sure you use a Genuine Subaru Filiter. My dealer tried to give guff about voiding the warranty for using a fram.

FriedIceCream I would honestly say wait till 3,000 miles. The oil in a new car from the factory is a "special" type of conventional oil that is used to break everything in. After 3000, I would do a change to 5-30W CONVENTIONAL OIL (Castrol, Valvoline, Quaker) and use a PureONE filter. This will clean out the remaining "special slug" oil that may be left from the first oil change. Then after 1500 change the oil again, use a PureONE filter and a 10-30W Synthetic (Mobil 1, Castrol, etc) That is what I would really recommend. Goodluck

Not that I know everything, but that is the first time I have ever heard that one...would love to read more about the "special sauce"

Guys there is a HUGE thread about this just from this week in Service and maintenance:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=743232

Seems to me like everyone has a different opinion

Fwiw, my dealer told me to change at 3,000, and the oil from the factory is indeed some sort of break-in oil.

The guys in that thread seem to think that is nonsense...I have no idea
