Default Anyone using Perrin Ebcs with Accessport

Just wondering if it is good or bad too do. I know a few Sti's with Ecutek that recommend me getting a Perrin Ebcs.

I had a nice long answer worked up but my computer ate it!

Anyway the short answer is no it is not worth it with AP because:

A) If you hook up the EBCS in interrupt mode you would get some increase in spool (how much I don't know) but you would need to be able to modify your waste gate duty cycle (WGDC) maps in order to compensate for the additional air volumes the Perrin EBCS can move at a given WGDC compared to the stock WRX BCS. According to the Perrin EBCS thread running their EBCS at the 'Stage 2' WGDC values will result in boost spiking and fluctuation (and I will personally attest to this fact)

B) You can run the EBCS in bleed mode but if you're on the stock turbo there would be little to no benefit from doing this as the stock BCS is adequate for the stock TD04 turbo and you would get little to no increase in spool.

For more info look here: Perrin EBCS thread

And Here: GM Part #... Different make but it does the same thing.

Now with ST the answer would be different.

maybe i'm missing something here, but if you hook up a aftermarket BC, aren't you bypassing the stock BCS and rendering the WGDC maps useless? (from how i understand it, the stock ECU uses the BCS to control the WG).

The Perrin EBCS is still controlled by the ECU's WGDC maps... that is unless you are running another form of engine management that over-rides or replaces the ECU. The Perrin EBCS is just a solenoid; it has no processing or control abilities what-so-ever, it just does what it is told.

Other 'programmable' BCS (such as the Apexi AVC-R) include their own dedicated ECUs just for the BCS... Perrin is NOT one of these.

I'm using the Perrin EBCS w/ ST.

The biggest difference was using a lot lower wastegate duty cycles to get a lot higher boost. I only used it in interrupt mode.

With a bigger turbo I would think it would only be a better upgrade.

With the boost levels I was running I would notice some very slow boost onset but it was all due to tuning. The boost would shoot up to like 9 psi and then slowly climb so I made some pretty drastic changes to the boost dynamic maps.

It's been so long since i've drive a car w/ the stock solenoid I can't remember what it's like so I can't do a direct comparison and now I have headers and an external wastegate so my setup is super oddball.
